Fox/Dish Network Dispute Affects College Hockey Fans

Re: Fox/Dish Network Dispute Affects College Hockey Fans

Dish Network allows two TVs to be hooked up to the same receiver, any additional receiver will do the same for $5 a month. The DVR can be watched on either TV that the receiver is connected to. So if you have your living room and bedroom on the same receiver with a DVR, you can watch the shows you DVR on either TV. Plus it saves money by having less receivers.

I believe the 24 series DirecTV receivers will do whole-house DVR—any receiver in the house can stream content from one DVR. I'm not sure if there's any additional charge for the functionality.

Currently $3/month, but they have some awesome new technology coming and it shouldn't carry a monthly charge. Reading the forums and participating in Insider chats the recurring theme from DTV customers is the fees. The new receivers will make those fees obsolete.

Re: Fox/Dish Network Dispute Affects College Hockey Fans

So I complained via online chat to Dish Network...I got ONE $3 credit (so I could pay for one episode of Sons of Anarchy on itunes), 3 free PPV movies and free HD Platinum for 3 months. not bad I guess, HD Platinum should be cool if I actually remember to check out those channels. I'd much rather get $10 or $15 off per month but whatever. We're also getting every non-fox regional sport network and NFL Redzone for free.

No Center Ice to make up for losing access to the Minnesota Wild.

I waited 'til today to complain (online chat as well), and they offered the Sports Pack free for one month, and I asked what I had to do if the dispute continued past the end of October, because I didn't plan on comming back to ask for November free. They moved me to the next level and I ended up with $10 a month off for 12 months. Good for me, but I read that as though they are not confident it will be resolved soon.

not I they basically told me I was out of luck and hung up on me. If it wasn't for having to convince the wife to change I would have called directv right then

Call them back and tell them what happened. If necessary, threaten to cancel. The second line of customer service has the ability to give you pretty much whatever it takes to keep you. The folks at DTV don't know you have to convince your wife of anything.

Why the balls are three Fox Sports networks available, and not the rest? Makes me angry!

Puck Swami replied to my similar question:
"The Fox Channels are branded Fox Sports, but actual ownership of each Fox regional network varies. FSN Rocky Mountain is based in Denver and is a subsidiary of
DIRECTV Sports Networks, which also operates the regional sports networks FSN Northwest and FSN Pittsburgh".

Settlement

Dish Network LLC and Fox Networks said Friday they have reached an agreement that puts the Fox Sports stations back on the air on the satellite provider and averts a potential blackout Monday morning of local Fox network stations, including KDFW-TV (Channel 4) in the Dallas area.

The deal ensures that the 440,000 Dish subscribers in the Dallas area will again have access to Dallas Stars and Mavericks games on Fox Sports Southwest, and will not miss any of the World Series games broadcast on the network station.

Fox Sports Southwest had been blacked out for the last four weeks after Dish and Fox could not agree on how much Dish would pay to carry the broadcaster’s 19 regional sports channels, as well FX and the National Geographic Channel.

The separate agreement to carry the network stations — 25 in total around the country — was set to expire at midnight Monday, potentially forcing Dish subscribers in the affected markets to miss the last three games of the World Series featuring the Texas Rangers and San Francisco Giants.

Financial terms of the new deals were not disclosed.

When Fox Sports went off the air, Dish claimed Fox was asking for a 50 percent increase over its previous fee, but Fox said that percentage was incorrect.

Without reading through all the replies I've been told that the NHL network is showing some games this weekend. Check your local listings and enjoy the show.

Re: Fox/Dish Network Dispute Affects College Hockey Fans

I see Denver at North Dakota at 1 pm on NHLN and Minnesota State at Alaska-Anchorage at 3pm.
