Four Nations

Re: Four Nations

Wrapping up preliminary round play...

USA 7, Finland 0 - Kelli Stack and Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson each with two goals and an assist. Monique Lamoureux added a goal and 2 assists. Some question about who scored the opening goal -- it was either Kendall Coyne or Hilary Knight -- but that was followed by goals from JLam and Allie Thunstrom in a span of 1:46 to chase Finland goalie Meeri Räisänen just 6:17 into the first. Noora Räty played the remainder of the game in net for the Finns, but it was just too much from Team USA. Shots were 39-12 USA.

Final stats at http://stats.swehockey.se/Game/Events/289204. USA Hockey recap at http://www.usahockey.com/news_article/show/574221.

Sunday schedule...

Bronze Medal Game - Finland vs. Sweden at 11 a.m. local time / 5 a.m. ET / 4 a.m. CT

Gold Modal Game - Canada vs. USA at 2:30 p.m. local time / 8:30 a.m. ET / 7:30 a.m. CT

Re: Four Nations

The Bronze Medal Game is complete.

Finland 3, Sweden 2, OT - Jenni Hiirikoski scored 2:15 into 4-on-4 overtime. Hiirikoski also recorded an assist, while Riikka Välilä had a goal an 2 assists and Susanna Tapani had a shorthanded goal and an assist. Erica Udén Johansson scored both goals for Sweden, erasing a 2-0 deficit to force the overtime.

Shots were 38-19 for Finland. Meeri Räisänen got the win in net for the Finns.

Stats from the game are at http://stats.swehockey.se/Game/Events/289278

Re: Four Nations

In-progress update...

End of the 2nd, Canada 2, USA 1 - Second period goals by Spooner (CAN, PP), Decker (USA, PP) and Agosta (CAN). Shots are 21-21. Faceoffs favoring Canada 18-14. USA in the middle of their 5th power play, with 1:24 carrying over to the 3rd period.

Live stats at http://stats.swehockey.se/Game/Events/289277.

Re: Four Nations

2-2 going into ot

ink wasn't even dry on that - 3-2 USA Knight at 00:36 of OT Assist to Stack. Seemed like an even game, each tender had 30 saves. Looks like a lot of penalties for a womens game, 7 for Canada and 4 for the US.

AMERICAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Shout out to Canada to losing to an American team with many of its best players staying behind on campus

So who are the players you think are the best that should have been there?

My guess: Carpenter, Brandt, Skarupa, Pankowski, Keller.

Coyne went to 4 Nations, Janiga was supposed to go, and not these others previously mentioned??

I think there is more to this than meets the eye?? Am I wrong?

Especially when the WCHA shut down in anticipation. Seems weird. I read some earlier posts about why and nobody had the answer. But there must be more to this is if you send a couple of NCAA'ers and not all of them????

By the way TTT, Johnston, Jenner, Mikkelson (who I anticipate will be back soon), Watchorn will all be around kicking tires. Not to mention Szabados. And who knows about Wickenheiser (which is always a thorn in the US's butt). Lots of Olympic Gold medals between them.

It will be about 2018, not now.

Re: Four Nations

team canada women should give the 'C' to someone else
how about rebecca johnston? great player

my only comfort is knowing that Wickenheiser, brianne jenner and ouellette can all replace the players on the third/fourth lines

Cameranesi and Stecklein have also been staples on recent US rosters.

Stephanie Anderson of Bemidji went as well.

There is something going on, but I'm not sure any of us know what. BC and Minnesota were hit hard last year by the loss of US players. Did they request that their players not be taken this time? Did the players themselves ask to not go? Is USA Hockey reacting to complaints from last year? Is it simply a desire to look at a different player pool? The US won, so it can look like a genius move, but the main thing is to win in 2018, so hopefully, all decisions are made with that in mind.

Personally as a Gopher fan, I'm not all that upset that people like Brandt and Cameranesi, who have been hurting, got an extra week to get healthy. But on the surface, it just looks odd.

Re: Four Nations

less than 1,000 people watched both games

I can see there not being much interest in a Canada-US game, but you'd think even though it was the 3rd place game some people might want to support their team play who you would think would be their main rival

BTW, Decker - - what a stud :)

Re: Four Nations

I noticed the poor attendance, too. It's puzzling to me that more people wouldn't have wanted to see these two games that included many of the greatest women hockey players in the world. Was there a soccer game in town?

Decker and Knight are both studs. Thinking of them reminds me of Noora's unbelievable saves at the end of the 2012 championship game on both of them and their stunned looks at the end of the game when they couldn't score on her.

Sundsvall is tiny and miles from anywhere. Seems like a poor choice of location. I don't think we can read anything into it about general lack of interest in women's hockey in Sweden -- World's in Malmo was pretty well attended as far as I can tell.

Burn out prevention.

I would Re-think your use of words (Many of its best players). USA pretty much dominated the tournament. They did not play an "A" game in the final and still came out victorious. Aside from maybe one player everyone else you speak of is not a lock for anything. I see 30 girls, by the time 2018 rolls around that could easily play on this team. Great for the sport. They did not leave anyone home that would have made anymore of a difference on the outcome. Lets not diminish what they accomplished last week.

You don't like the "C" on the 29? Great Team player in my opinion.

I assume 29 is Poulin...I cant bring myself to go to the Canada website to check.
she is the consummate player...classy without peer. not to mention one of the top 3 (if not THE) best players in the world.
she should be "C" on any team she's on.
poster must be a relative of the player overlooked.
this is therapy for me...accolades for an Canadian player. she is THAT good.

Rattray? Why she wasn't on the team is a mystery. Leaving JL behind is a bit of a slap in the face unless she is injured?
