Since this thread is for ECAC Fans, I thought you might like to know that my podcast is interviewing Ken Schott from The Daily Gazette to talk about the 3 ECAC teams in the tournament and all things tournament. Some notes:
We do the podcast on Tuesday. It is said to come out every Wednesday but we post on Tuesday night when everything is finished.

I have been a fan of college hockey for twenty years. I went to Fredonia St. where I often did reporting on the team there. My best friend played at Elmira, and my brother will begin his career at Yale in the fall. I have been following the USHL the last few years and know most of the Freshman in college hockey. I hope I can give ken a good interview.

I agree with some of the comments that we are stuck here for two more years so let's make the best of it and certainly edible food and a social or party area on one end of the arena (I wasn't there so I'm going on others descriptions) sounds like a step in the right direction. If all you could get was the typical arena fare of hot dogs and pretzels let's get another vendor or two in there with some variety.

This seating chart gives you an idea of the stage/open area at the end of the building. It's quite large and should offer enough room to provide an area to mingle and serve edible food.

Reading the history of the building, it sounds like there might even be some other spaces (conference rooms, catering room, etc) where things could be done.

I incorrectly assumed the arena was off site away from the boardwalk. The fact it was located where it was does make it more advantageous to walk around and go to other places.

Boardwalk Hall is right next door to Trump Plaza and the main entrance is on the boardwalk so it was easy to get to.

Why Ken Schott? You might want to speak to the coaches involved, or the SID's, or radio voices of the teams for more credilble interviews!:)

Good Lord..Wakey !!!! The only place it's ever worked is historic Lake Placid !!! If you've ever been you would "NEVER" want it any other place.(three quarters to full too) Why don't they just make us happy ?

Although I wasn't in Atlantic City this year, I've been there before, and the location with including things to do is nice. Is it a bit out of the way? Yes, I would say so. Is the atmosphere sketchy? Absolutely. However, if you're really concerned about getting the most people in the door, then hold it at the highest remaining seed's home barn, similar to the women's tournament.

You're never going to be able to please everyone. I don't know of a better location at this time, so I'm just going to roll with the punches.

As anyone who attended last years Holloween Face Off can attest - that was playoff atmosphere for an exhibition game! Despite the big ice, winding roads and unpredictable weather - the ECAC Championship belongs in Lake Placid PERIOD!

The Lake Placid event worked because it was RPI/Union and Clarkson/SLU (two of the schools that have large traveling fan bases), and the fact that everyone only had a 2 hour drive or so. Also, it was a one day affair, so you could call it a nice day trip.

For the next 2 years, Lake Placid is the home of the NCAA Men's D-III Finals. Sorry.

And they'll outdraw the ECAC both days..

The ice size is a problem at Lake Placid...

It's a curtain and you're insane, that (and the amazing architecture) are beautiful.

We've been fortunate that three of the ECAC's tournament sites have been wonderful buildings (Matthews, the Old Garden, Boardwalk Hall). The Lake Placid building was acceptable; the Pepsi or Whatever Corporate Whore Center was the same hideous cookie cutter monstrosity that infests almost every city.

Unless the ECAC is near bankruptcy I can't see them staying in AC past the three years. I'd certainly give NYC a shot and Albany is always there as the dull, practical option, but it would be great if we could somehow combine the AC barn, the LP surroundings, and Albany's centrality.

Or we could just have it at Houston Field House. (At least it would be full for one night. I keeed, I keeed.)

Dear god I wish it could be at Matthews...not realistic because of the capacity, but man what a gorgeous great place to watch a game

Of course, if we were going on sheer beauty, no building in the world holds a candle to Appleton.

Never been...but I'd put Matthews up against it just judging by the pics I could find and the history...but a discussion for another thread I suppose

I can appreciate the architecture, but that "curtain" just didn't speak hockey to me. Others may have liked it, but I found it gaudy and a bit distracting. The building did nothing to make me feel like I was at a hockey game.

RPI/Union barely brought 1000-1500 people and still the arena was 3/4 full to full for the event and the town was a buzz all day. When the tournament was there for almost 10 years attendence was never an issue and they had a few years where some of the teams with the worst followings made it. For example there was three years in a row (I do believe) where Princeton made it and Harvard and Brown as well. Attendence still was nearly full every game. The locals will show up no matter who is there which makes attendence never an issue here. Plus the arena only seats around 8000 or so, smaller than others but just big enough to accomodate. This tournament belongs somewhere where it is wanted and Lake Placid is the place.
