Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2016: Because "blob" is not an acceptable shape.

Already stronger as I can do a whole lot more than a year ago-ish when I started.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2016: Because "blob" is not an acceptable shape.

Tried pre-workout today for the first time.

Tried creatine a while back but it bloated me (water weight) and I abandoned it.

This is aminos and a bit of caffeine.

Made me have to take a **** midway and I feel less energetic than normal.

Thinking it might not be for me...

Must have been some dump. ;)

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2016: Because "blob" is not an acceptable shape.

kinesiology tape must be some kind of witchcraft. I put some on my knee and it IMMEDIATELY felt better. pretty awesome stuff. I just googled the instructions for how to place it for tennis elbow, so will give that a try, too.

I found out my new kickboxing instructor is the only instructor at the gym I absolutely hate. he's one of those super-intense guys that thinks everyone is motivated by being berated. I've had hockey coaches like that, and it does not motivate me. It doesn't make me angry, so I can fuel my anger into a productive workout. It just makes me miserable. I'm giving it one class before I switch to spin on Saturdays. need to re-think the rest of my work-out schedule, since I really like kickboxing. very bummed.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2016: Because "blob" is not an acceptable shape.

I gained 9 lbs since January, up to 229. I know I lost my way, so here's what I'm doing to get back on track:

1. Recommitting to 30-60 minutes of purposeful exercise 5-6 days a week. My job of collecting carts does not count.
2. Much less dining out, especially since trying to eat healthy at restaurants is a major disappointment. If there is a night I get home late, use the Crock Pot.
3. Dietitian and I agreed that monitoring was good, so I need to pay closer attention to the grocery list. Stop bringing bagels home, and buy smaller jars of peanut/nut butter for starters.
4. In terms of peanut butter, if I want that much fat, I should probably swap it out with an avocado or some guacamole.
5. Recommit to yoga and Pilates, especially since the cross training helps burn inches from my waist and hips.
6. And instead of trying to count every last calorie, I'm just going back to doubling down on fruits and vegetables, with some whole grains thrown in, as well as quality protein.

This is working. I'm losing in my waist and hips.

Finally able to get back to my training after a bout with upper respiratory infection. Went back to the 3 minute walk/1 minute run. Going to try to get see if I can do the 3 minute walk/1:30 minute run.

Happy to report that while I don't see much change on the scale, I can get into a size L scrub at work instead of XL. Pleasant surprise when they were out of XL scrubs this morning and the XXXL (they don't care XXL) looks absurd.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2016: Because "blob" is not an acceptable shape.

Got back up to 3 minute walk/1:30 minute run. Felt good. Aiming for Tuesday to get back to where I left off. 2 minute walk, 2 minute run.

16.34 mile run today, and I went from a 10:30 mile at mile 7 to a 10:21 mile at the end. That's exactly what I need to do at the Ann Arbor marathon in 2 weeks.

Did you read that Eddie Izzard just completed his 27th marathon in 27 days today? The man is in his fifties, and if you've seen his movies from just a few years prior, wasn't a thin man until recently.

Wow. Ann Arbor marathon will be my ninth since I started long distance running in 2009.

Are you doing a Couch to 5K like program?

I had quite a bit of success with that when I started running to lose weight.

I've got to give that a try. It looks like a good way for a 62-year old with bad knees and who hates running to lose pounds and get back into decent shape.

I am doing a program like that. I want to give myself a challenge as I am not the smallest of size.

I absolutely love it. I don't follow the weekly schedule. What I do is take the run schedule for the week (ex: 1 minute run/3 minute walk) and keep at that pace until I'm comfortable and then move to the next level.

Good news is that I am back to the 2 minute walk/2 minute run that I was at before I had my upper respiratory infection.

It's rewarding when smaller clothes fit!

My wife is not the smallest either. She wants to get on the plan, but her knees are shot and she can barely walk around the parking lot across the street. It's a kind of Catch-22 -- can't lose weight without exercise, and can't exercise because of the weight. But she's going to begin slowly and see what happens.

Good for you!

I'm all in on the program after walking to my doctor's office today. My BP was 130/80, which is where it usually is, even with meds. He adjusted my meds and says if it doesn't come down he may want to put me on a diuretic. NFW to that! I walked an extra half-mile home and downloaded a C25K app for my phone.

Swim! No load on the knees!

I started running with Couch to 5k. After this year is over, I will have finished 12 marathons, 7 25Ks, 8 half-marathons, a litany of 5Ks and 10Ks, and one 50 mile ultra.

And to think that in December 2003, I weighed 396 lbs. Have to start somewhere.

Tomorrow is the Ann Arbor marathon. This will be number 9 for me.
