Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

I've been on a bad stretch. Have not worked out since the first snowstorm. Targeting April 1 as a day on the calendar to get going again.

know the feeling. I've gained 15 lbs since last summer. and been on a bad stretch. but I've started up again. yes!

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

I need to get back into pilates and yoga. With a half marathon next month, the Fifth-Third 25K in May, my first tri in June, and the Twin Cities Ultra Loony Challenge on October 3 and 4, I found the pilates and yoga made running better, and lessened my risk of injury.

Not only that, I gained 8 lbs in the past month and a half. Need to fix that.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Good luck! I did my first 5K last fall and loved it! I then did a mini tri (indoor) a couple of weeks ago -- even more addicting.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

The office weight loss challenge ended today, it was 12 weeks long, I think. I beat my goal of 12 pounds and lost 14.3 but I am way short of the winner who lost something over 30 pounds and a much larger % of total weight. He looks like a different guy. I'd like to lose another 5-8 pounds at least. As my ankle continues to heal (I had it replaced last June) and the weather gets nicer I intend to walk and bike a lot more.

Just as I was getting back into a regular gym schedule and right before hockey playoffs - concussion. :( I thought I was OK, and even played hockey, but the third time I played (4 days later) - that's when the symptoms really hit. Been a lazy *** since then.

Did you go Byfuglien on the chick who gave you the concussion?

Jeez Jen, that stinks.

I finally got out on a run on Wednesday, was 28 degrees but I went out anyway. Kept it short to just get the legs going and get the first run under my belt (and to get inside quickly). Hoping to get back into form here, I am starting from scratch basically.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Speaking of running, I'm making progress. Three years ago, I labored at a 12:00/mile for 5 miles or more. This year, ever since tightening up the diet and committing to speed, I'm down to ~9:00/mile. :)

yeah, it sucks. Still feeling it a little bit. Not even sure who did it - could have been a teammate. Just one of those things were a bunch of people were going for the puck.

Down to a 34.5" waist and 41" hips.

Picked up Les Mills' Combat from Beachbody, and will start that tonight.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Well, it's only been a couple of weeks but I've done pretty well since my April 1 target date to start up again. I've been getting back to the gym and running on weekends. I started with 2 mike runs at a slowish pace... Want to ease into it so as to try to avoid injury. I'll start adding a third or half a mile each week until I'm up to a 5 mile loop.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

I have an Olympic weight Weider rack in my basement, squat cage with adjustable hooks to hold the bar, a pulley system for lat pull downs, etc, and an easy curl styled pullup bar for the front crossbar up top. It's great. I lift when I want and don't have to deal with people hogging the equipment. I save a ton of cash on gym memberships, too. I also have a full set of hex-shaped dumb bells from 2lbs to 55lbs to almost complete the setup. I'd like more dumb bells, but anything over 60lbs is special order and therefore a good deal more expensive.

can I like come over and live there?

If I had a house good weightlifting equipment is as good as bought.

What kind of speedwork are you doing?

ps - I got into some sort of zone and banged out a nice 7:54 first mile last night, which I am cool with since I basically just got out there on April 1st.

Some "go-to" workouts:

1. I run with people that are faster than me, including a Boston qualifier. Their "easy" pace is my "huffing and puffing" pace, and trying to keep up with them is hard.
2. Tempo runs. Usually around 7 miles, with a 1 mile warm up, 5 miles at 10K pace, and a 1 mile cool down.
3. Intervals. 1-2 mile warm up, 5-7 minutes at 5K pace with a 5 minute jog in between, and a 1-2 mile cool down.
4. I pick an album on my iPod nano and race it. The goal is to make it back to the house in the time it takes the album to play.

Today, I have a tempo run scheduled.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Long story short, Mr. has to get his blood pressure down and lose some weight. Doctor Orders. Diet and Exercise. As I am the one who cooks, we are in this together to start eating healthy and workout together. The diet is similar to the South Beach/Mediterranean. Lots of veggies, lean proteins, and low sodium.

Worked out at the gym for the first time in over 4 years. I am going to hurt tomorrow. At least it is the good kind of pain. The plan is to meet Mr at the gym on our way home. I drive right past it, so why not stop.

Wish us luck!

Make sure to stretch after your workout. That's very effective for helping control that next day soreness.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Went to the doctor and found I maintained weight.

She also said I do not need to lose weight right now because of my running and racing.

It is good to be in it with someone... Helps with motivation for sure. Remember lots of stretching and don't do too much too soon. Better to ease into it and be overly cautious than to end up on the injured list.
