Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

It is good to be in it with someone... Helps with motivation for sure. Remember lots of stretching and don't do too much too soon. Better to ease into it and be overly cautious than to end up on the injured list.

I do a lot of heavy lifting at work, so when I am at the gym, I focus on the elliptical, bike, and treadmill.

I know if the hubby was not with me, I would not go. That is the really strong bad side that I have. Today I am spending the day at the ballpark, so I know I will be standing and walking around a lot. It also helps that it is a great day outside.

12 oz curls do not count as exercise. Just sayin'... :)

Correct. They have to be at least bomber sized.

I moved out of weight loss mode into maintenance mode this last week. I was scheduled for 2400 kcal/day, surpassed that by a few hundred each day and still dropped a pound.

At any rate, I started the weight loss regimen at 358.3 on 2/18/14, today I'm 222.5, just below the 20% body fat threshold for "normal". The good ladies at Medifast requested that I track my calories closely this week so they can give me a better idea as to how many calories I should eat in order to truly maintain. I'm not great with that sort of tracking, so it's my challenge for the week.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Ran for the first time today since December when I was diagnosed with a stress fracture in my lower shin. Been skating and biking, but running had me nervous as that's how the injury happened.

We have some soccer fields at the end of our street, so I went there a ran laps on the grass. Did 8 laps and I'm guessing that a lap is at least a quarter mile, so did at least 2 miles.

Went well and no issues with the shin.

If it was the size of an American high school field, it was more like 1.6 miles (60 x 120 yards). The big league fields are up to 100 x 130 yds.

It's two fields sorta side by side.

Figured running on grass was safer than going right to concrete/asphalt. When I tested it on my street in early March, felt a twinge that made me shut it back down.

Was slightly depressed at the thought of not being able to run. Was great to get back to it.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Slowly starting to turn around in gym mode. I came home not feeling as sore and more rewarding. It helped that for my exercise yesterday, I walked to the bar. It is .8 of a mile away.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Next time, walk to the bar and walk home.

Oh I do. Especially if the hubby is with me and it is a nice day. Nice company when walking back. The only downside is the huge hill to climb up after 5 or 6 beers. Once you get to the fire house, it levels out and then you are sober.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Checked my measurements:

34" waist
40.5" hips
38" chest
14.5" neck

My size 36 pants are feeling a little loose.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

Rivertown Races - 1/2 Marathon and 5K half-marathon results: 1:58:35, a 9:02/mile. At mile 1, my GPS said 9:09, and I knew I was going to do something good from there. As the race progressed, at around the halfway point, my watch said 57:xx, and I knew I could finish in under 2 hours. I kept pounding the hammer, and as I approached the finish line, I flexed my arms and bolted across the line.

Also, this sets a new half-marathon PR by about 25 minutes, obliterating the old half-marathon PR of 2:24:20. I basically set my PR on fire and smoked its ashes today. I am so stunned and so amazed at the progress I have made since the start of 2014.

Mr. Squishybits (a wimp) is dead. Thundercat is strong, and will proceed to kick *** from here.

25 minutes is pretty impressive, congrats

I am pretty sure I am just never going to get better.

jen, there is a quote I keep coming back to:

“Whether or not you can never become great at something, you can always become better at it. Don't ever forget that! And don’t say “I’ll never be good”. You can become better! and one day you’ll wake up and you’ll find out how good you actually became.”

Just keep going. You'll be surprised at how far you've come.

Re: Fitness (Diet/Exercise) 2015: Define Yourself.

The aftermath of concussion? Nothing to fool with. Thats some scary ____

I'm better than I was, relatively speaking. But the 10 days of cognitive rest was less frustrating than where I am now, mentally. It's much harder than a normal physical injury. I feel probably 90% better now, and can do most cognitive things (TV still gives me a headache, and too much cell phone) and at least I can work again, since I missed 8 days of work (and I haven't been to the office in 3 weeks). However, 90% better is not enough to return to normal physical activities. And I have to rest after, well, everything. Plus, I think I'm dealing with rebound headaches now. I'd take a broken leg any day over this ****. I've definitely been weighing what I get out of hockey vs. how painful this has been, and how much worse it would be if it happened again.
