Fire Mike Eaves?

Re: Fire Mike Eaves?

UAH beat Lake State this year and had some close contests with quality teams....3-2 against UNO and a tie with Mankato. I hate to say it, but this Badger team can't take UAH for granted.
Wisconsin was lucky Tech had three top players out last weekend or it would have been a sweep.
You can bet Kleinendorst has his boys believing that they can win and fired up to do so.
I'm still picking Wisconsin to sweep, but there will be two good contents and UAH will give them all they can handle.

Well, that's not surprising.

Fyi, Wisconsin hasn't offered either player. One would pull the trigger if they did, however.

You'd probably know better than I would. I'm just going by what I have read. Sounded to me like Wisconsin is front-runner to land both.

Any ideas on why neither have gotten offers?

Nice players, but not must-haves. Longer you can wait to make an offer, the less of a chance you have to make a mistake on a kid. Wisconsin coaching staff will be in the TC to evaluate both (& other players) over the holidays at the Schwan Cup, and other local tournaments.

Makes sense. I was just curious because I am wondering if, now that Hurley is off the board, if the battle for those two will heat up a little more? Not saying Wisconsin still wouldn't be the front runner (sounds like on at least one they would be for sure), but it might make things interesting.

Any ideas if either have any offers currently and from whom?

I know the offers for one of the kids but I'm not comfortable putting it out there. Mostly NCHC schools and a few out east. No Gopher offers for either (at this point).

Thanks Chuck. I had a pretty good feeling the Gophers hadn't offered, but wasn't sure if any of the other in state schools had. I understand that you can't divulge info. Thanks for the replies. I know I haven't been the nicest to you in the past.

Nice players, but not must-haves.

Are they better than Woods, Navin, Paape, Dahl, Meuer.....you get the picture. At this point I think UW could stand to have some "nice" players, but I get they are looking for blue chippahs and fill in around with nice players.

Re: Fire Mike Eaves?

I've made a point before that I think touches on a similar vane, namely that the demographics of a Badger hockey fan has indeed changed. I think it is rooted in where hockey fits into the hierarchy of Badger sports. For a long time basketball and football were in the range of aweful to mediocre at best. For now approaching 2 decades, both have been generally very good and I think the result has been a lost generation of Badger hockey fans that were more interested/captivated by basketball/football then prior generations. I suspect it has even trickled down to youth hockey as the Madison Capitals are a shadow of what they were a decade ago.

It took a while, and it saddens me to say it, but they never really recovered from the water bottle fight.

It was a sad day when those Sue goons mucked up the Colosseum like they did. I wish UW would get into a conference that didn't include this goons. That'd be sweet.

Indeed. Then, instead of just partially, UW could completely ride the coattails of Minnesota and become purse swinging nancy boys just like their neighbors to the west. After stealing their players for so many years, you may as well steal their play style too.

It pains me to say this, but their style of play isn't all that bad. And we're not stealing their players, some are smart enough to abandon rodentland all on their own. The really dumb ones go further west, the dumb ones stay and the smart ones head east.

Re: Fire Mike Eaves?

What a difference a month makes huh?

Well, they are beating mid to low end opponents with their goalies and D playing great. UW got a little lucky in Kato, they had 1 shot on goal in each game's OT and both went in, both scored by the same defensive defenseman. Goal scoring is still a problem for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd lines and the PP sucks BAD. The theoretical 4th line is the only line scoring on a consistent basis. The bottom line is UW still lacks the scoring punch they need to be a annual NCAA tourney participant, which is what UW fans believe they should be. The recruits lined up aren't deep enough to solve this long term problem, with only 1 scorer coming in next year (Besse) and maybe 1 the next (Soleway).

Re: Fire Mike Eaves?

On one hand: they've gone 6-0-0 since the thread went dormant.

On the other hand, that came against Huntsville, Alaska-Anchorage and Minnesota State. The next month includes games against Miami, North Dakota and Minnesota. Talk to us then.

2-2 tie @ home against Bemiji.....Ugh.....8907 in attendance....double-ugh.

The tie to BSU isn't the problem and the attendance is just a symptom.

Poor cumulative records over three seasons and a style of play that is more concerned with not making mistakes than it is with scoring goals is the problem, both of those are 100% the responsibility of the Head Coach. Scoring 2 goals a game isn't going to be anywhere near a problem if you have a winning % over 0.650, likewise scoring 4 goals a game isn't going to save you if you have a winning % under 0.350. But, if you are only going to win half your games you had better not be boring while doing it.
