Finally it has been done. The Federal League is Real!

Re: Finally it has been done. The Federal League is Real!

But where is the 1000 Island team going to play?
(a) SLU
(b) Clarkson
(c) The Golden Domes in Ogdensburg
(d) Massena
(e) Maxcy Hall
(f) Pavillions in Canton
(g) Brockville
(h) Kemptville

The impresarios who are behind this run the Contiental Hockey Association (Junior B/C and that is a stretch) and the Empire Junior League (Junior B).

UFB!

Re: Finally it has been done. The Federal League is Real!

Some interesting rules for the new league:

Q. Any unique playing rules that the FHL will be using?

A. First we will use a 3-2-1 point system meaning that a team that wins in regulation will be awarded 3 points, a team who wins in OT or in a shoot-out will be awarded 2 points and the team which losses in OT or shoot-out will be awarded 1 point. All minor penalties will be served in full regardless of the number of goals being scored.

Q. What is the procedure for OT and Shoot-Outs?

A. A 5 minute overtime period, 3 on 3, first team to score wins. If a penalty is incurred during the OT the non-offending team will be awarded a penalty shot, if he scores, the game is over, if he does not score the one minute penalty shall be served.

Re: Finally it has been done. The Federal League is Real!

Thousand Islands could play in Watertown. Where are the other two teams coming from? Plattsburgh/Burlington?

Re: Finally it has been done. The Federal League is Real!

Was not the league in the movie 'Slap Shot' called the Federal League?

Re: Finally it has been done. The Federal League is Real!

So, is Rome going to play in the Utica Aud? Are there any other "spectator" type rinks in the Rome area for the team to play in?

Interesting who the owner of the Thousand Islands team is -- Nicole Kirnan Hall, former women's coach at Manhattaville. Very successful coach at Manhattanville. Will be interesting to see how she translates those skills to the boardroom. Best of luck to her.

This cached (from 12/13/09), but since removed page, notes two of the teams names:

The Danbury Whalers and the Ottawa Patriots, I'm not sure why they took down the page, maybe failure to complete licensing agreements, terms of the licensing agreements, or just decided to make a media (publicity seeking) announcement later.

And that cached page also refers to the Thousand Islands team as Alexandria Bay. I like Thousand Islands better. Hope they don't change it.

Re: Finally it has been done. The Federal League is Real!

Why is this on a D-III thread.

IMO, because it is occuring in and around the CCCP, and as it "dedicated to the growth of professional hockey at the Class A level", it offers a great potential for D-III players who wish to extended their playing careers, once they have exhausted their NCAA eligibility.

Because the Rome team is owned by former Trinity player Brian J. Hall.:D

(He has a Bachelors in Engineering but is getting his Masters in Sports Management....did he finally get tired of caluclus!)

No one should get tired of calculus :D

They were going to call it The California Penal League, but that was already used in the movie "Major League."
