Finally it has been done. The Federal League is Real!

Re: Finally it has been done. The Federal League is Real!

Why is this on a D-III thread.
From this on the upstart Rome team:

"The Frenzy, with the help of the league, have been careful to schedule home games to avoid conflicts with Utica College games at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Since its inception in 2000, Utica’s team has drawn very well, setting Division 2 & 3 attendance records as members of the highly competitive ECAC. Mayor Brown said that Utica games regularly bring in 2,500-3,000 fans."

Re: Finally it has been done. The Federal League is Real!

It appears that 4 of the 6 teams (Danbury, Akwesasne, Broome County, and NY) have either posted or are in the process of posting their rosters. I see a few names that I recognize.

Note: Looks like each team has a countdown clock to the first game timed to the millisecond!

EXTREMELY quick scan of the rosters and these were names I recognized. I know I'm probably missing plenty.

Danbury Whalers:
G.Matthew Lopes, Gustavus Adolphus
F.Andrew Willock, Plattsburgh State
D.John Halverson, Trinity

New York Aviators:
D.Tyler Lyon, Oswego
G.Chris Testa
F.Anthony Longo,

Rome Frenzy:
F.Anthony Monte, Nichols
D.Kyle Roberts, Morrisville/Oswego
F.James Muscatello, Fredonia
D.Craig Cole
F.David Fimiani, Norwich
F.Vincent Nucci

The other names sounded familiar but I couldn't place teams with them. They may or may not have played D-III.

Please feel free to add to the list. Once again, this is just what i quickly came up with off the top of my head by scanning the rosters.

Rome has posted too now.

Last I looked @ 1000 Islands, Alex Wyse was on the roster as a goalie. Somebody has (had) him in the FHL.

I think your being a little harsh. Also I don't think the NHL is hanging by it's fingertips. Danbury and Brooklyn have always done fairly well. Upstate cities don't even support the AHL. The economy up there has been in the crapper for 20 years, the current situation is really nothing new to them. A lot of people on anonymous sites are very quick to say things about people that they would never say to their face. I've looked at a couple of the rosters and they contain a lot of D 1 players and high level D 3 guys, not D 3 castoffs whatever that means.

Didn't mean to pee on your parade;sorry if I did.(Seriously.)But low-minor hockey reduces the game to a brawl on skates, usually.

Sadly, that what the fan base wants,as a general rule. It's depressing to see guys who once played the game with integrity at various levels being reduced to participating in a sideshow.

Maybe this Federal League will be different, but I doubt it.One and done is my guess.

Re: Finally it has been done. The Federal League is Real!

:(You are right about the tenuous nature of these lower level leagues. Unfortunately some less than scrupulous types set these things up on shoestring budgets and stiff the players in the end. I hope that does not happen here.

Have they started playing games? What has attendance been like?

Re: Finally it has been done. The Federal League is Real!

FYI - pay is $125 / week AAHL is $150 a week. I'm hearing that all the NY Aviators are living in one house. The housing sounds like something out of the eastern junior leagues.

Re: Finally it has been done. The Federal League is Real!

Is the Eric Lind who plays Defense for Danbury in the FHL the same Eric Lind who is an assistant coach with Yale???

I'm wondering if this Tyler Lyon played for Oswego?

Does this help on Eric Lund?
Eric Lind, Defense, 6-2, 195 -- The former ninth-round draft pick by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1997 is in his 10th pro season after starring at the University of New Hampshire. He played in 18 games for the Danbury Trashers of the UHL in 2005-06 and two games with the Danbury Mad Hatters of the EPHL in 2008-09.

Adding this, I would say yes, he is the Eric Lund who is an assistant coach (unless 2 Eric Lund's got drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1997).

Browsing through the rosters...a couple SUNYAC players are found in the FHL...Tyler Lyon (Oswego) playing for the NY Aviators...Andrew Willock (Plattsburgh) playing for Danbury Whalers....Sebastian Panetta (Geneseo) playing for 1000 Islands Privateers....

Re: Finally it has been done. The Federal League is Real!

Tyler Lyon is currently playing for the Pensacola Ice Flyers of the Southern league with former Lakers Ryan Scott, Matt Whitehead, and Kyle Gunn-Taylor. They are joined by Buffalo State's Jason Hill and Tyler Soehner, and Neumann's Erik Stoyanovich.

The Federal League is interesting because you have a lot of DIII guys and some guys right out of Junior A and then you have former Montreal Canadien Pierre Dagenais on the Akwesasne team. I was thinking there would be a lot of fights and bench clearing brawls but so far it looks like a lot of good and fairly clean hockey. Hopefully they are able to make a go of it and stick around for a while.

C-U-R-R-E-N-T-L-Y he is playing for Pensacola. He is signed with the Aviators to which he will likely return if he is let go by the Ice Flyers.
