Ferris State Hockey Student Section

Re: Ferris State Hockey Student Section

Freddie, I've been to both arenas recently. And as of February, no, BG still looks like they haven't pushed a broom through there since about 1985. There's cobwebs in that arena older than I am. I'll take Ewigleben over BG every day of the week. At we've put a coat of paint on our place since the Reagan Administration.

Ferris is doing the best they can, facility-wise, with a ~40 year old arena and a very limited budget.

Yeah, but they have a curling rink. :p

Re: Ferris State Hockey Student Section

Sure, enrollment is up, but Mecosta County isn't exactly overflowing with money, either.

Median income in Mecosta County: $16,500. 35% of the population in Big Rapids is below the poverty line. And those are just the 2000 census numbers. I can't imagine 2010 will be prettier.

Ferris is really underrated as one of the toughest places to play. I can't think of anybody that plays well there.

Also, this thread became interesting once the people who feel they have to post the same memes in every thread stopped being dicks.

Touche. :D

Sometimes Ferris is included in that mix. :o

The fact of the matter is, there's just not a lot around Big Rapids. You've got Cadillac an hour north (woo-hoo!) and Grand Rapids an hour south, and CMU just short of an hour to the east, and not a whole lot in between, jobs, money or city-wise. I spent 4 1/2 years there. I would know. Outside of Ferris, you could probably fire a cannon through most of Mecosta County and hit nothing but trees.

Not entirely true Hammer. There is that odd chance you might hit a Deer or a Dogman perhaps. ;)

Re: Ferris State Hockey Student Section

Wow, that student section looks pretty intense in those pictures. Ferris State does have a good atmosphere then, eh?

Your guys predictions tonight vs. Alaska?

Re: Ferris State Hockey Student Section

Yeah Ferris State has a good atmosphere. Just because our attendance isn't as high as Wisconsin's doesn't mean our low cieling and small building can't do wonders for noise.

For those of you just seeing this for the first time, go to the first page. There is pictures.

Re: Ferris State Hockey Student Section

There hasn't been anything to do in Big Rapids since they bulldozed the Chieftain Roller Rink and built an A&P.

If you're talking about the one downtown next to the American Legion; it's a dump, but we still play inline there. If you remember/or think there were two you're older than me. :D

Re: Ferris State Hockey Student Section

I also remember meeting Top Taggert at the "wecome back" cook-out downtown.
