Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

Re: Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

My first trip of the year to Ewigleben last night. There was one team on the ice and UofM were a bunch of individuals...weird stuff really.

Kyle Bonis took a puck to the head and it wasn't a wristshot. Any updates on him?

Michigan is mad and got a good night of sleep. Ferris is happy and probably partied pretty good last night. Let's get the sweep anyway.

Bonis is in the line-up. Huff is not. Merrill, Guptil and Clare are out for Michigan. Guptil is a healthy scratch based on Red's remarks last night. Not sure about the other two.

Re: Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

Merrill has been injured and will be out for a while. Unsure on the other two.

A win and a tie in the eyes of the NCAA. I'll happily take it.

Re: Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

Tough weekend at WMU. Should of won the second game, but refs gave WMU two powerplays with 4 minutes left which led to 2 goals. Terrible calls by refs, Bulldogs got robbed. However, this team has a lot of potential and the season will allow them to grow & get better. Still really optimistic here. WMU was a quality team and they're hard to beat at Lawson. However, neither game WMU didn't look to be as good as last year's team.

@Wildcat_Dave: Lawson Lunatics make Yost look classier.
You're exactly right, the WMU students & fans are out of control. The Lawson Lunatics are a bunch of wild animals with zero class or civility.
Last year in the second round CCHA playoffs, Lawson Lunatics directly pointed and chanted at LSSU fans "Stupid Yoopers". Most of the LSSU fans are old-timers, it came off extremely insensitive. It's one thing to point at opponents cheering sections and say "Ugly parents", "Hillbillies" or whatever they can come up with. But, once you start saying derogatory slang about where people come from/grew up, that's over the line.
After second FSU game, FSU players and coaches visited families/friends before riding home on the bus, over a half dozen Lawson Lunatics swore and threatened FSU players and staff while getting on the bus. It became to a degree that safety was a concern for little children in the area. FSU parents had toask Lawson Lunatics to please stop their awful behavior and grow up.
It certainly has become obvious WMU fans and students don't know how to win/have success with modesty. They finally have a good program to cheer about after shooting themselves in the foot for years, but they've gone way over the line in trying to put down opponents after victory. Its funny how a former FSU player (Jeff Blashill), who played for the current FSU coaches, turned around a terrible WMU hockey program. WMU should probably be thanking FSU, because WMU former players (i.e. Jim Culhane) ran the program down the drain, and it took a FSU guy to turn it around. I guess it takes FSU Bulldogs to do your dirty work lol. I used to despise U-M the most, but WMU is now at the top of my list. Its one thing to be arrogant and cocky like U-M when you have 9 national championships and 20+ straight NCAA tourney appearances. But, WMU Broncos are 0-5 in the NCAA Tournament, and only Michigan D-1 program to never make it to the national championship game. WMU's got an extremely bright future ahead and they're one of the best CCHA teams, but they can't start talking smack until they've won a NCAA Tournament game. Also, WMU, you've got A LOT more money in your hockey budget than schools like Ferris State & LSSU. You can't use the excuse anymore that your facilities aren't up to par with Ferris', like you did when Culhane was there.
Glad we might never have to go to Lawson again. Actually after a couple horrific experiences at Lawson, this makes Yost look a lot more attractive. Those Kalamazoo fans have Zero[B}[/B] hockey sense. It's probably because they didn't have a competitive college hockey team for a while. I loved it when one of the FSU parents turned to a section of WMU fans and called them bush league. The WMU hockey fans couldn't even comprehend what he meant.

Re: Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

Well WMU was our achilles last season so I am just going to assume that again. Sounds like we should have won game two but didn't finish the deal. Next year when we're in the New WCHA and all broadcasts are online I'll have a more in depth analysis.

Beating U of M 5-0, then tying them the next night followed by getting swept by WMU. This is going to be an unusual season...

Go Dawgs!

You're a pretty good comedy writer there!

I'll have you know, the refs were missing calls on Ferris all night and the two penalties they called were clearly penalties. You want to talk about hockey sense, if you thought those weren't penalties you need an eye check!

Michigan also chants "Stupid Yoopers". Nice try.

You're really one to talk tough. Obviously you have no idea what goes down in the CCHA, or various schools around the country if you think the Lunatics are out of control. And facilities? You guys play in an "arena" that is smaller than what my high school played in! The roof in that place is so low pucks are always hitting the netting up there! Seating on one side? C'mon! I would take Lawson over it any day.

Keep thinking that you're program is superior. It has gotten you so very far already.

Re: Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

Great. I'm going to get this every home weekend here on out, from ignorant little sods who don't even know that past FSU threads have slagged their admin for neutering the "DogPound".

As to the rest, I'm sure I can come up with plenty of anecdotal stupidity in my half dozen trips to Big Rapids to be amusing, but most of the adults on here don't want to read that, so we'll let it slide for now.

Okay, define a "usual" season. :D

As for the other issue, we have no high ground whatsoever for criticizing other student sections. Trust me. I speak from experience. :p

Unfortunately, every team has some idiot followers and they are the ones who always stand out. Most of the old timers have learned to block them out and focus on the hockey. There is enough drama and excitement in the game without focusing on the other fans and the stripes. Ferris played hard and did not give up. With their work ethic they will do well this season. The WMU FSU games are always great hockey.

Re: Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

Ferris State had the refs in their pockets all night.... the second game was completely earned by WMU. Glad the lunatics ran you out of town....

Re: Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

No one's sorry to see Western bail on the CCHA with the rest of the rats. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

You act as if Ferris wouldn't jump on the chance to be in the NCHC. Please.

What's with all the whining and complaining? Both teams played strong, physical games on Saturday. Western came out on top. It happens. Ferris played well and Western did too.

Re: Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

OK, back to hockey - what's the word on Kirzinger? Will he play at all this year?

Re: Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

Just a WAG here, but no, if he's not close to returning now, I doubt it. Take the redshirt and come back next year.

Not surprised at all about this year's results. I knew that this was a re-tooling year, and the floor hasn't fallen out from under us.

Re: Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

10 games left in the regular season. Taking a basic rough cut at things, here's where we're at.

As of ~11:45 PM, we're 20th in the PWR. Tied for 19th, but lower RPI, which shoves us to #20. We probably need to flip about 5 comparisons or so to make the tournament. Looking at the schedule, we've got 3 road series (Notre Dame, NMU and Michigan), and 2 home weekends left (Western and BG). I think we need 7 wins, plus a CCHA series win, plus a trip to the Joe, and avoid a bed-****ting similar to what happened a few years ago, where we went to the Joe needing a win or tie to punch our ticket to the tournament. That puts us at 10 more wins, total, give or take a win.

We've got our work cut out for us if we want to make the tournament, but this can be done.

Re: Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

7 out of 10 is alot to ask. Ferris just needs to keep battling and grinding out wins whenever they can!
They are a grinding team. I think they need set their sights on home ice, and then worry about theJoe, and the NCAA after that.

Nothing makes me happier than beating the big schools. In the last few years Ferris has played very well against MSU. I hope that in the future MSU and U of M will still continue to play Ferris. If things keep going the way they are now though, they may not want to face them. The big ten teams, seem to have their hands full with Ferris.

Also I do think that MSU made a mistake with Anastos behind the bench. I was never a big comley fan, but at least he had big game experience. Tom coaching a little bit of club hockey, and then being an administrator for a long time does not make a good coach. MSU could be doing more than what they are doing now if they would of took the coach instead of the name.

Re: Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

The Anastos hiring was a complete ****-up on MSU's part. That will reveal itself as time goes on. The guy had a couple years of experience coaching club hockey about 20 years ago. That's it. The hire should have been Danton Cole.

7 of 10 is probably what it's going to take for us to put ourselves in a position to make the tourney. That's what the math looks like to me.

Re: Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

When Ferris was admitted to the WCHA they talked about necessity for improvement of facilities, any word on that?

Re: Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

Per Ferris Sports Update, Kirzinger finally back this week for the Notre Dame series.
Czarno and DeMartino out.
Not sure when they will return.

After watching the first 2 periods against Western Michigan, i am totally convinced that the Broncos are the class of the CCHA, this season. Further, i believe that Western is right there with Boston College, Minnesota, Quinnipiac and New Hampshire, as the best in the Country. Those guys are that good.

Came here to comment on all the cheap shots.... But this comment changed my mind. Its a fun game to watch and as a lunatic I appreciate the compliment! Good game!
