Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

Re: Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

Is Rico Blasi coaching Michigan tonight? Even the Hanson brothers couldn't goon it up like this.

Are you confused with the Ferris team that had two kneeing penalties on the weekend? Would like to hear some examples. I give Ferris credit for improving their overall style of play in recent seasons with high energy hustle and good goaltending. But that team reminds me of the late 80's Red Wings with Jacques Demers whack and hack style of play. Can't skate by a forward without a slash and a tug, and can't dump and chase past a defenseman without being escorted/obstructed five feet to the left or right.

You constantly confuse "forecheck" with goon. classic mistake

Who said anything about a forecheck? Let's talk about Motte getting run a couple of times last night.

IIRC, your defenseman got a crosschecking penalty on one of those "runs", directly into Motte. I also remember him going out into the corner to play a puck and went out of his way to obstruct a forechecker killing a penalty. There were some scrums around the net where he got bumped, like the review on the play where the puck was covered up on the line saturday. But, I don't think there were any calls made for goaltender interference. That said...

I don't think any fan has a leg to stand on complaining about individual calls. The officiating during both games was horsebleep. Totally lost control with the extracurriculars. Alnike hit it on the head, though. Obstruction is allowed when the officials let both teams get away with it. The problem was, the cheap calls took that consistency away and the players were left wondering what they could do or what they couldn't do.

For every fan complaining about Trouba or Lynch, for instance, we can talk about Czarnowzan's dooshery. There was plenty that went around both ways. And please, explain the seven players on the ice that wasn't called in OT. I know Pi got an eyeful. If these guys were auditioning for the playoffs, or better- the WCHA/Big Ten officiating sweepstakes- they got massive fail. I thought Pochmara was one of the better officials in the league until that display this past weekend. Maybe that was just McInchak covering for him in the past.

Anyhow- I'm sure that Ferris earned a well deserved rest this weekend and, based on limited judgement of what we saw of both FSU and OSU- will do just fine in Columbus. Good luck.

The first time in YEARS we BG fans had reason to root for Ferris, and you failed.
Well, at least you pulled out all the stops. Not often you see the goalie pulled in a tie game...and I reeeealy liked the added bonus of sending on the 7th attacker. I give you "A" for effort and creativity, "D" for execution:(

Thanks, Ralph.

Just saw that Chris Kunitz was named NHL 1st team, if I read properly.

He also got a nice pay day but still looks to be a bargain for the Pens if he can continue to put the puck in the net next to Crosby.

Re: Ferris State Hockey, 2012-2013: Okay, how are we going to top THAT?

I started watching Ferris hockey games in 1976 and I am still in shock over last season. Even without having a dominating player like they did in 2003, they came together and played at an amazingly high level. I still don’t know how they accomplished what they did, but it was the ride of a life.

I’m looking for Cory Cane to have a big year for the Bulldogs this year. He needs to further develop his game, (More speed with the puck in neutral ice), but I do think he is set for a break out year.

LETS GO DOGS!

Good luck, Ferris State! You may have stumbled onto something "without having a dominating player." They often have short college careers and raise hob with coaching and recruiting strategies. Check the rosters of the teams in last year's frozen four.

At this point in time I'll trust Coach Daniels and his staff. They've earned it.

I like how they are using the old Michigan logo.

It was our 2nd CCHA title, but good article all the same.
