Re: Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty

I didn't see the Bemidji game, but I did catch last night's game. I'm not upset with what I see. This isn't a bad team. I'd be quite pleased if we finished a couple games over .500 and made a run at the Joe.

What I see is a goaltender playing out of his mind, one of the best blueline efforts in the conference and some timely goals- although I'm sure you guys would love to average more than 2.3 GPG.

Re: Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty

Well, Nagle has been very good for his entire career, one of the 2 or 3 best goaltenders ever at Ferris, along (IMO) with Phil Osaer and Craig Lisko (and yes, I'm ready to defend Lisko over Mike Brown anytime). The defensive core, led by Wietecha and Redmond, and now joined by Wysopal and Billins, have been just as good over the years as well. We're really going to miss Redmond, Wietecha and Nagle after this season, although Taylor Nelson is not a bad fallback plan at all in net.

As for the goalscoring, we knew this was coming a year ago. I'm pleasantly surprised with our results to date.

Ferris looks like a completely different team with Redmond in the line-up. They looked lethargic in the games that he missed. His ability to come up as a defensemen really opens up opportunities for the other players.
That being said, I hope they can use the BGSU sweep as a boost into this weekend.

Re: Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty

ouch, not much of an showing by the "#1 defense in the nation". It wasn't quite as bad as the score, if a few bounces had gone the other way it would have been a closer game. Michigan is definitely not over rated though - they applied a lot of pressure and forced all kinds of turnovers. It's frustrating that the year we have a great group of defensemen is also the year we have no forwards who can score, pass, or hold onto the puck. I've watched a lot of mediocre ferris teams, but they always had a couple forwards who could score. It was good to see Thompson score the other night though. He seems to have a bit of a knack for scoring - I see he's in the top 5 on the team in goals per game (not bad for a freshman who has been in and out of the lineup). Ha, who knows -in two years we might have a bunch of good forwards and no defense.

That was an uncharacteristic showing by the Dogs last night (hangover from a tough loss the night before?) Two bad turnovers led to the first two goals and giving up a shortie to a 3rd/4th liner (especially w/ Redmond defending) was not the same team I saw the night before. Nagle can't be faulted too much. The penalty bug bit hard this weekend, too. I hope that the team can pull it together before the Irish go up there.

Re: Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty

Looked like some pretty questionable calls to me.

Looked like the Bulldogs mailed it in for two periods more so than blaming it on the official's calls.

Re: Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty

I'm not saying they should have won, or the game been close. They clearly got outplayed.

Another loss, hopefully this isn't another late season collapse. They have to pick it up and fast, the difference between 4th and 8th is only 3 points.

Re: Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty

Just a quick game thursday, and then no hockey this weekend for the Bulldogs. But there is that 131 showdown in Grand Rapids at the Van Andel Arena with GVSU in Basketball.

Re: Ferris State Hockey '10-11-Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the penalty

I'm sure tens of people will be interested in Divsion II basketball.

Meanwhile, Ferris pops MSU 2-1. A nice win, but man, we should have buried them 3-0 or 4-0 in the 1st, and we could have cruised home. Oh well. A win is a win, and I'm happy.

Twisted wrister by Redmond last night!!!

So are Michigan fans, since FSU flipped back to a TUC. Unfortunately, MSU flipped under the RPI line.
