Feb. 12 Scores: Someone break up the Rowdy Crowd, Oz home again, Cadets visit Spa

Re: Feb. 12 Scores: Someone break up the Rowdy Crowd, Oz home again, Cadets visit Spa

I'm still amazed SNC broke thru the next year without a "Fire Tim Coghlin" thread.:) That whole thing still cracked me up. Probably 2nd best to "Congradulations".

SNC lost yesterday, so...

Fire Tim Coughlin!:D:D

No panic here. Why the obsession with how Oswego fans deal with the team's adversity? You seem to bring it up on a weekly basis.

Mostly because it's annoying to read a thread to learn about how a prominent team is doing, and have to sort through a bunch of posts that are way too negative for the circumstances. What I find interesting is that it seems to be much more common among Oswego and Plattsburgh fans. There are a few teams (like Middlebury) that have a couple of individual negative nellies, but Oswego and Plattsburgh fans seem to have a higher concentration than most.

Higher concentration of Oswego and Platty fans on this board tip the odds toward more nellies me thinks. Both teams have their "characters". I like the new " I HATE all Oswego fans" signature of one poster. I am thinking of changing mine to HEHATEME in response.

I agree, it is annoying to hear the overreactions some weeks. It's also annoying to hear the "All Oswego fans are crybabies or whiners" mantra that is perpetuated each week when one or two (out of scores of Oz fans) go overboard. Let it go, there is no need to chime in every week in response to the fringe element, more often than not your commentary on the subject leads to more negativity.

Indeed I do.

Indeed I do.

Nah, I don't literally hate all of them. If I knew how to change my signature, I would.

Best fans in the country (behind Plattsburgh State) - Norwich
Worst fans in the country - Oswego

Re: Feb. 12 Scores: Someone break up the Rowdy Crowd, Oz home again, Cadets visit Spa

A lot of folks seem to let their enthusiasm and thirst for victory get the better of them. I heard a bunch of people complain about effort last night and admittedly it wasn't their best for sure but even with that they were very much in the game until Morrisville's fifth goal snuck in.

This is a game of inches and three of Morrisville's goals were prime examples, they all hit Beckwith but he didn't get enough of them to keep them out. In contrast Relkoff got just enough of a couple of good chances to keep them out. The Van Boxmeer post hit was a killer for Oswego as it would have brought them to within one with all the momentum and plenty of time left.

Another killer for them in the game was their lack of execution on the outlet passes. They never could get any speed up on the attack because the outlet passes were lousy. That isn't being overly negative, it's the truth.

They are a much better team than they showed last night but I don't think they have really reached their full potential all year. For whatever reason they are lacking something to bring it all together. I am thinking the desire to reach the ultimate goal that they failed to reach last year will be what they are missing to take it over the top.

Re: Feb. 12 Scores: Someone break up the Rowdy Crowd, Oz home again, Cadets visit Spa

I'm thinking there are more than a few teams who feel this same way!

Please, PLEASE tell me there is some sarcasm to this. Like Ozzfest said, I don't see too many Laker fans on this board who have "I hate ALL Plattsburgh fans" under their name. But we're the worst fans.

And the line is easy enough to change. Settings at the top of the page, then edit profile. But why do I have the feeling it will stay the same? :p

Re: Feb. 12 Scores: Someone break up the Rowdy Crowd, Oz home again, Cadets visit Spa

Yup, because the rest of us saw it as a joke as it was happening. And therein lies the distinction.

So you're taking a situation from four years ago, with entirely different people and entirely different circumstances, and applying it to the current situation, also noting that the situation you're referring to from four years ago hasn't even crossed anyone minds except in jest? Good to know, glad we're all on the same page.

I believe that thread was started by someone exercising the same sort of panache seen on the Daily Show and Colbert Report

Think again.

It's just a joke. And if anyone, you're the internet gangster. You have nothing better to do than rip on me all the time.

These are two serious questions:

1. Do you really think that Oswego has the worst fans? I'm kinda confused, because you stated that, but then you said it was a joke.

2. If you do think this, what is your basis? If you are just joking, of course this question doesn't apply.

Well, "the Worst Fans" can be a perspective thing, going up against them, in their home rink - yes, they are among the worst - I hate facing them - but - envy them at the same time.

The hatred for "Oswego Fans" got lost when they moved to the CC...back in the Romney days they were one of the worst, (Middlebury still takes the cake of all time). I've been to nearly 75% of the eastern rinks in my time and Oswego isn't even in my top 10 as far as worst fans go. For the most part they are respectful and know the game. Even for as big of an event as a Plattsburgh game, all the fair weathered fans still put a positive spin on the game. I've been to the CC several times for non OSU/PSU games, so its not just a PSU/OSU bias. We've all had issues with other teams fans at some point for those who get out and visit other rinks, and by doing that the real college hockey fan knows who is who in the college world. Even on here most of the OSU fans are hockey knowledgeable fans, we all have our "fans"....but one has to come to realize that this is A) a college hockey game B) Division III C) see A........

Sometimes we need to sit back and be fans of the "game" not a team. I know I had a great time after the Fredonia game last night clapping for the young cancer patient who received the jersey. We were sitting their clapping for them and were told to "you won, now get the F out". Sometimes hockey isn't about winning or losing. Just like I drove to and from a nasty snow storm last weekend to make the Morrisville game to help support Todd. Win or lose seeing the community support for any game makes the drive worth while.

I'm not fond of Elmira fans either. I got to see them first hand in Placid back in '08. Not saying I dislike them all, but yeah.

EDIT: Throw Potsdam's student section in there too.

That's my beef. Oswego, Elmira, and Potsdam. I really enjoy talking with Norwich fans. I never had any issues when I drove over to Kenyon last year for the quarters either.
