Faribanks Daily: Rumors of the WCHA announcing two applicants this week? NMU and ??

The SFOS at UAF has four other locales outside of Fairbanks: Juneau, Seward, Kodiak, and...drumroll...Anchorage! That is less a UAF program and more a UA program that happens to be administered from the state's primary research institution.

Fun Fact Time: Landlocked UAF is no closer than 350 miles from ANY ocean. But they do have the only Ocean Sciences college in the state. They're getting a new 100 million dollar boat. Isn't it keen? It'll be parked in a slip in Seward ... just a scant 127 miles from UAA and 484 miles from UAF.

UAA is actually a school on the Pacific Ocean btw ... just clarifying.

Thanks, I needed a good laugh today - and your post is one of the single most ridiculous things I've read on this site in a long time. Kudos.

Yea, we all know SCSU is the best program in Minnesota.

Thank you for supporting my view of the wastefulness of having an ocean studies program 484 miles from the ocean. So I'll imagine you'd agree to stipulate that if the SFOS was on the UAA Campus then there'd only have to be THREE other "locales"; thereby generating a cost savings of about 25%.

Funny, I hail from Pennsylvania. I have lived in Alaska for over 10 yrs now. Growing up, we always said we were from the "East coast" when out of the state (visiting friends and family in western states). The term “east coast,’ is a just a generalized term. Why are you upset and splitting hairs over this? You truly cannot be that bored.
Its the off season! Never underestimate the boredom of Hockey fans during the off season. Hell, we're always just one off handed commit away from arguing about why UAA and UAF don't build indoor football stadiums up there. ;)

Shiver-me-timbers.
UAA could probably provide all the necessary galley scrubs, possibly a few deckhands, and definitely a cabin boy or two, but where would you get all the research scientists and other learned folks?

What's funny is this: UAF is a dedicated Sea Grant university. Mighty oceanfront UAA isn't. I'm sure it's the Regents' fault.

Fun Alaska Facts Part Deux:: Anchorage has The Dome ... Fairbanks has The Poop.

Same place UAF gets them ... Europe and San Diego.

Re: Faribanks Daily: Rumors of the WCHA announcing two applicants this week? NMU an

Couple of clarifications:
1) UMTC is no longer Minnesota's Pride on Ice, that status has moved about 150 miles North on Interstate 35.
2) *Swept

St. Cloud is closer than that, plus you should take I-94.

We can't give UMD the title of Minnesota' Pride On Ice on account of the Dogs had Canadians on their roster.
