Elmira College Soaring Eagles 2010-2011 Season Thread

Senior night, Bolin played the entire game. EC let in a couple that shouldn't have been, and couldn't connect on a dozen or so point-blank chances. EC outshot and outplayed but couldn't outwit. In the standings, it's the score that counts. Oh well.

Out played? Man, i must have been at a different game

Re: Neumann U v EC

There are going to be about 4,000 screaming Uticanites against too...
I'm not so sure. Utica cannot overtake Neumann to host the rematch next Saturday. So other than the fact that it's the last game in the Aud this season, really not a whole lot of incentive to play other than pride.

I think the Pool B bid, or for that matter even a Pool C bid is a good reason to play. If Utica loses tomorrow and then loses in the ECAC West tourney, they could be on the outside looking in. Same goes for Elmira for that matter.

Agreed. (Man I hate to agree all the time... for just once I'd like to be a prick... maybe later.) Anyway, as I said it last week - "This ain't over yet...". In my opinion, Elmira (and Utica) can NOT drop many, if not ONE more of their remaining match-ups, whatever they may be. Common Ops, Record against ranked teams, Overall record… they all suffer with any loss from here-on-out, and these categories must remain as strong as possible with the whole Pool-system the ECAC West is subjected to. Admittedly, I’m too lazy/tired/’buzzed’ to crunch all the numbers at this time... I’ll leave that to the “hobbyists” more dedicated than myself. :)

So why risk it? Probably because they (Elmira) can (or could) for tonight and tonight ONLY. There may be some wiggle-room in the numbers to allow for tonight’s loss. Bolin put-in a good “career” with Elmira, and the sympathetic/rational person in me appreciates the decision to go with him the full game. Honor given to what I consider to be a good man. The "fan"atic in me says he should have been started for a shift or two, then go with what has been working.

This isn't “mites” where everyone gets a trophy, and it isn't pro where your livelihood depends on your performance. It's somewhere in-between. I respect Saul for keeping Bolin in the game, and ultimately we shall learn in the end if it was the right decision or not. I [quietly] questioned decisions early in the year with all the line dynamics, but considering Elmira’s performance down the stretch... I was proven wrong. I don’t mind being wrong. ‘nuff said.

If anything, I would like to think that tonight shows just how much confidence Saul has in this team to bounce-back from tonight. Take nothing away from Neumann... they earned this win. It wasn’t just goaltending tonight... How many fanned shots in the slot? How many give-aways in the zone? How many “woulda, coulda, shoulda”? Tomorrow’s another day, and I expect things to be different.

There are two things at stake... a bid (“B” or “C”), and Quarter-final hosting rights. Win-out, and I believe Elmira is still in a good position to retain both. Lose one more, and hosting may be in jeopardy. Lose two... both may be gone.

Just goes to show how important games 1, 2, 3... all the way up to 26, 27, (and to some, 28) are. So, yeah... tonight was important... but to who? Answer: “To the right people”, and I fully believe that tonight will be forgotten quickly.

Thank you, Seniors... but I’ll say it again, “This ain’t over yet...

Gonna be an interesting game tonight in Utica.

UC will have to travel for the league playoffs, regardless, but they can certainly raise their stock with a win.

(And,did I mention that we just despise Elmira?)

Admittedly, it's not really my call as I'll be a passenger today, but I suggest we despise each other over a pre-game brew. :) Other Utica posters? UCBadger? sshablak? XC-Tiger? [transplanted]Caveman?

Cheers!!!

Where and when would you like to get together? At the Aud, or somewhere in the neighborhood? I'll glady get together and rub elbows with some ex-enemies......

I'm a "Aud virgin", so not sure what's best. Looks like we'll be getting-in around 6, so not much time for an off-site social... within the Aud is the way to go. Adjacent to a beer concession, of course. (I just don't know where they are, but I'll be sure to find 'em!!)

Not sure how you guys come in but I'll guess rte 81 to the thruway. When you exit the thruway you make a left on N Genesee St...take Genesee st south about 3-4 blocks and on u'r left is "Babes" restaurant and bar. It's even right on the way to the AUD. Only hockey bar in the area. Family restaurant with private bar. When you leave you're two minutes from the Aud. I'm easy to spot...moustache and only person wearing a "Colgate" hat ! I'll be at Babes around 5:30 or so.

Right now the weather is bad..12 noon...snowing and blowing snow...better leave early !!!

On the road now, and yeah... they suck. Stuck in a line behind a plow that's not doing jack but lighting-up brake lights. We'll get there... Pick a concession, and we'll all through a few back.

Who would everyone rather see Saturday? Manhattanville who well all know has struggled in the ECAC WEST but earlier in the year beat teams such as Adrain, and Norwich or Hobart who struggled at times in the ECAC WEST but earlier in the year beat Oswego.

Even though we swept the series this year against Manhattanville…I don’t want anything to do with that team in the ECAC West playoffs.

Discuss!!!

I have been thinking about this for some time now.... What a tough road either way, both teams have a score to settle with Elmiira. Regardless, it should be an excellent day of hockey at The Domes Saturday (ladies at 2, men at 7)!

2 Hours, 50 minutes of shutout hockey

2 Hours, 50 minutes of shutout hockey

MacDonald didn't allow a goal for 170 consecutive minutes against the Statesmen, and he's a sophomore. Sorry Mark.

  • Hobart skated hard and forechecked intensely, but could never find the back of the net until the outcome was no longer in doubt.
  • Taylor pulled the goalie down three with 3 to go. Gutsy!
  • Cam Miller took a real cheap shot slash on Campbell with about 90 seconds to go. Way to lose with dignity! Your parents must be soooo proud!
  • Only ~500 in the seats at the anthem, but the ticket line was out the door. About 1300 total by the end of the first. Only 40 or so students, and the roundball team is really bad ... pathetic.
  • EC's overall speed created a bunch of opportunities, and caused 'Bart to take a few penalties.
  • Funny how D3 only sees the good referees at playoff time.
  • EC created traffic in front of the net all night
  • Acorn twisted his knee on his goal, and never re-appeared. Skating only 3 lines took its toll.
  • Strale has ~really~ blossomed over the last 10 games.

Goals:
1 - Strale: Nice tip-in from a passhot from Campbell
2 - Schrank: Breakaway out of the penalty box. Defense had no clue penalty was expiring
3 - Acorn: Beautiful toe drag on a 3 on 2.
4 - Strale: Sniped in a blast wrister from the left circle from Linden
5 - Vallaincort: Another traffic tip-in from Kirby

EC looks very very good right now, but League championship games are not their forte.

I don't want to say too much about Adrian on a public forum. But have heard he is doing much better today and more aware of what's going on. They expect a full recovery. 80% of the people with this injury never walk again so he is lucky. The player that hit him was very upset and went to the hospital. The next game ADs team played the crowd chatted Adrian name during the game. Emotional time for the Saul family and the EC hockey family.

AD was a freshman when I was a senior. It was hard for him having an older brother that was a star but he worked hard and earned his respect. When I think back to those days the first thing that comes to mind is PP/ PK practice. AD was in the half wall PP and I was on the PK. My job was to read the pass from point to half wall and be there playing the body. At this level of hockey you practice like you play so it was always full contact. We would battle but always left it on the ice. We were all like that. It was understood that you played hard in practice to get better. AD was strong and talented. That freshman class was super talented. Krivo was in that glass too.
Anyway I'm rambling just wanted to share some thoughts on AD.

Thanks for the personal touch Johnny. If I remember correctly, Aaron and Adrian were on the same line for a couple of years, both very talented players.
