Elmira College 2011-2012

Fitchburg v EC

Fitchburg v EC

Sigh :<(

- No major 2nd semester roster surprises this season.
- Elmira outshoots FSU 3:1 and simply couldn't find the back of the net.

Fitchburg masterfully employed the rope-a-dope (google boxing if the term is unfamiliar) strategy, let EC throw shot after shot on net, all but one of which which Leiser saw and stopped, some quite adeptly. EC cleared their zone easily worked it around the offensive zone at will, but never created any dangerous chances. FSU simply circled the wagon around the front of the net, never let any clean passes get through, and waited to counter.

The only EC score was on a giveaway behind the net. I believe that Elmira's post season chances are now a distant flicker in the Vermont haze.

Re: Geneseo at EC

Re: Geneseo at EC

I don't think EC's NCAA chances are necessarily dead yet. Figure there are 3 Pool C bids available. 1, but likely not more than 1, will go to the West region. The 2nd will go to the SUNYAC, either Oswego or Plattsburgh. Now for the 3rd one: you could probably rule out the MASCAC and Northeast. And, unless someone emerges as a power, I don't think 2 teams will come out of the NESCAC. That leaves Castleton. If EC can go no worse than 10-2 in the conference and win the conference tournament, and Castleton has a bad 2nd half, we could get in. Of course those things are iffy. We need Castleton to finish with 6 or 7 losses, and for Norwich not to be upset in the East tourney. If we and Castleton both have 6 or 7 losses, I think our strength of schedule could be the difference. I am not giving up hope yet. It's a longshot, but there's hope.

If we go on and beat Utica and Nuemann in the remaining games vs them, will that off set their wins over Oswego?

NSB Tourney Day 2

NSB Tourney Day 2

- Five new faces in the lineup tonight
- The frustration was clearly evident; Clewlow got a Misconduct 5 minutes in for running his yap
- Morrisville scored on a rebound during the PP
- EC's Power play appeared to be running in slow motion which may have put Mo'ville's goalie to sleep allowing Willer to rifle in a wrister. That goal seemed to awaken EC.
- Vallaincort really hustled to beat out an icing and feed Willer in front for #2
- Goals 3 & 4 were a result of some traffic/bodies in front and EC knocked in some scrambles

Mo'ville has a couple of guys that play Castleton style once they've been whipped. One threw three straight punches to the facemask, and got a double minor. The two games next weekend should be a hoot.

EC ~really~ needs to play a full 20 minute period, and consider placing Lee in front of the net the way Richard and Velich did. He's so big, quite strong, has great hands and could command much more attention than the midgets now trying to create distractions.

The contrast between Norwich and the other three teams was stark. The Cadets' energy level is far beyond the rest, and they do have some amazing talent. Thomas got the MVP, but Cotnoir is clearly their most complete player.

Game 2 - Fitchburg played much more inspired than against EC, and may have gotten screwed out of tying goal in the first. Appeared to hit the back top support and come straight out.

That's all from the land of short beards, camo jackets and unwashed hair.

Sorry I missed you (again). Hope you enjoyed the NU hockey experience. I would have liked to have seen NU/Elmira again. The thing I found interesting about Fitchburg is that they seemed to play a very defensive game until they fell behind 5-1, called time out, and then they started trying to run with the Cadets. They didn't get burned, but NU sure had a lot of chances in the last ten minutes.

How will anything Elmira does off set the fact that Utica and Neumann defeated another team?????? Do you mean if you go on to beat Utica and Neumann in the remaining games vs them will that offset the two loses Elmira had against Oswego in the first week of the season?

Re: FSU v Elmira

Actually, both Williams and Amherst are off to good starts, so we'll have to hope one of them cools off, too, or the NESCAC may get a Pool C.

I believe he's referring to the two losses Elmira has at the hands of Oswego, he was wondering if Elmira beats both Utica and Neumann if that would somehow offset those losses that Elmira already has because both Utica and Neumann have beaten Oswego once. At least that's what I think he was asking, I just don't think he worded it correctly.

Sorry guys, yea, that's what I meant
