Elmira College 2011-2012

Re: Geneseo at EC

Re: Geneseo at EC

Attendance was only ~600 at the anthem, but was over 1,000 by mid first.

EC
- DeMelo started in goal and played the entire game. Made two highlight reel saves in the 1st
- Lineup changes: Strale, Clewlow and Gagne replaced by Ciampichini, Morikawa and Maeder
- Impressed with Burnell, but again ... Vallaincort and Willer could make Dorothy Hamill look good. That line generated the majority of chances.
- Passing wasn't crisp at all tonight. Deja Vue the Oswego games
- Other than the A line, rushes were too predictable
- After getting down by three, pathetic effort on the dump-ins

GSU
- Controlled the neutral zone throughout the game. Knew exactly where EC was going with the puck
- Plays superb team defense
- Outworked EC in open ice and along the boards
- Goalie anticipates well, moves side-to-side quickly

Goals:
1 - Vallaincort snared a puck out of the air, caught GSU up ice, and found Burnell about 10 seconds in
2 - Nice pass from 12 to 11 (who'd gotten lost by the EC defense) from behind EC's net
3 - Lazy line change and defensive confusion lost the Genny player (again)
4 - 3x5 perfect 4-pass combo - deMelo lost his jock on this one
5 - 4x5 tip in of a blue-line shot
6 - 5x4 Burnell tipped in a Willer passhot

Either this is the typical mid-season slump, or EC is simply not that good. Here's hoping for a better 2nd half.

Unfortunately without the Pool B bid this year....Midseason slumps can't happen.

Gonna be an awfully tough road to hoe in the second half to try and make the NCAA's. At this point it might just be time to try and focus on winning the ECAC West and letting that be the highlight of the season because an NCAA bid is looking very very iffy right now.

Agreed. Waaay too early to get into a bractetology discussion here, but these SUNYAC losses are going to absolutely destroy EC’s Pool C chances. I have said all along – “Elmira’s NCAA tournament bid starts with Game 1”. Their entire resume will come into play for getting a chance at the dance, and that resume is not looking good after this weekend.

Are they dead? No… No, no, no. Are they on life support? Oh yeah. Once again, it’s the end of the calendar year, and I would say they have to win-out to even have a chance to “secure” that bid. By the numbers, all these SUNYAC losses (4 so far) will kill them in common ops in a comparison to a SUNYAC team in the top 2 spots. The 3 (most likely 4) losses to ranked teams will also be problematic.

SOS will certainly help... always does. But you simply HAVE to back that up with wins. And now, lots of ‘em!! This team has to dig-deep, gel as a TEAM, and win games from here-on-out. Make no mistake about it... the talent to do so is there. This is a very good group of hockey players... individuals with tons of skill. And if... no... WHEN they start playing as a TEAM with tons of skill, they will be incredible.

Tonight was a tough loss for Elmira. Geneseo played a good game, capitalized and cashed-in on just about every opportunity they had. They played a very disciplined game, and earned the win. Elmira had the same if not more opportunities, but simply did not bury the puck. I counted at least 4 open-net chances that the weak-side winger either whiffed on or mis-directed. And I probably only noticed half of those opportunities. Sloppy passes. Numerous give-aways. Just a painful game to watch as a fan, and I’m sure just as painful to experience on the ice.

Pull it together, men. NOW.

Their only saving grace may be the fact that most of the other perennial contenders are also struggling. Assuming the SUNYAC and ECAC/E get two bids what other league would get two before an ECAC/W team (especially one with an astronomical SOS) gets one?

PS ... it's never too early to talk bracketology

What about NCHA?

They've got several teams with the kinds of profiles that can take a Pool C bid. The ECAC West needs to have somebody step up and take charge of the league and have everybody do well out of conference. The MASCAC "stole" what was a defacto automatic invite for the ECAC West. That will be one of the interesting story lines as we go forward. - who knows what will happen in the "smoke-filled room" phone call at the end of the season.

I agree several NCHA teams with Better resumes then ECAC WEST I fear the non tournament winner in ECAC East could be in trouble because games with ST M'S and ST A'S do not count fot NCAA

THE NCHA is such a mess right now, I'm not sure they get two in the tourney. Plenty of reasons why they might (500 mile rule, a 7-4 split just because no one may deserve a bye ...), but it not any stretch of the imagination that the second place team in the NCHA will finish with six or seven losses. Is that a type of team that's deserving of a pool ?
Unless things change in the second half and there starts to be some separation front the top and bottom only one team will go. Unless UWRF keeps dominating and doesn't get the A.Q.

Remember when 10 loss superior got in last year?

I think it is too early, only because we haven't seen any regional rankings yet. Until then we're just monkeys at the zoo slinging poo in our cages.

Truth. But two losses to sub 500 suny teams is about as big of a kryptonite you can get for the ecac west's top team. Plus middlebury just lost twice this weekend so elmira's win over them goes down a bit in meaning. I honestly think elmira has to win the NSB tourney and beat Norwich in the process to have any shot.

With all of their OOC games against the MIAC and MCHA, you tell me. At this juncture, I think they're only getting one bid.
Code:
1 Wis-River Falls 9- 1- 2 .833 54- 25
2 Wis-Stevens Pt. 5- 6- 2 .462 35- 34
3 St. Norbert 7- 3- 3 .654 56- 37
4 St. Scholastica 7- 3- 2 .667 49- 38
  Wis-Superior 7- 4- 2 .615 45- 34
  Wis-Eau Claire 8- 6- 0 .571 41- 34
7 Wis-Stout 5- 7- 1 .423 40- 44

Re: FSU v Elmira

At best there's going to be one Pool C bid coming from the West, and it sure isn't coming from the MCHA. When it's all said and done, I think SNC is going to right the ship, and they'll be right there, along with River Falls.
