Re: Elections 2012 -- Kull Wahad!!!

Thank you for proving my point. His company paid taxes, which combined with mine and yours and everyone else's allowed the government to fund that school and build those roads. If the government hadn't done it, who would have?

Well, almost everyone else... There's the top 1% and the bottom what? 45%?

If he/we hadn't paid taxes their would be no govt. Govt produces nothing without us. Govt is useless without funding. The funding comes from us, big business, little business, employees of big business etc. Somehow you think Gov't came before everything else.

So which came first- the government or the tax? :)

US Government: 1787
Income Tax: 1913

Hey Priceless - do you want to argue that since the federal "income" tax was implemented after the US government, that the government exists independently of the will and funding of the people? Think harder than the first time, then answer.

Hey geezer - do you think I care? I was responding to a guy whose usual contribution to any conversation is "TF." Go ahead and make your argument. Do you think anything said by anyone here is going to change anyone's mind? I'd love to hear from anyone who walks into the voting booth and says, "Gee, I was going to vote for Obama, but I read this post on a college hockey message board and it really changed my view, so I'm going to vote for Romney."

And if they bought anything made recently by GM or Chrysler, they did it in public cars.

And if their retirement funds are invested with Goldman-Sachs they have a public pension!

It appears more and more to me based on what I see and hear that Mitt Romney will be the next President. It also is apparent that things like private profit, social risk, and trickle down will be the economic norms for this country for the next 50 years.

You really should stop listening to all those voices in your head.

Also, those things you're seeing are called "hallucinations". :p

Always a ray of sunshine, you are.

If you think this is bad, try reading his posts after the Gophers drop a game in October. :D
I really try not to do such things. It's tough to watch those on suicide watch spiral down in misery.

My evidence? The Bain attacks didn't work. The class warfare card isn't working. The economy is not on the rebound. All things point to Romney being President and his economic playbook is right out of the Bush II/Reagan model.

Well yeah, but I view it as a good thing when the Gophers lose, so I don't mind his negativity so much :D

It's also important to remember that government is us. Says so right in the first line of the Constitution. :)

Neither business nor government is the enemy. Both are creations of the people, and both can and should be controlled by the people to prevent them from concentrating too much power. The left is more concerned with curbing the excess power of business when it becomes too big and destroys competition. The right is more concerned with curbing the excess power of government when it becomes too big and destroys incentive. Both impulses come from the same place -- preserving a balance within which "the pursuit of happiness" is protected.

Currently, there is no cult of government. The right loves to use that as a strawman, but if it ever existed it's been dead and buried for thirty years. Today it's big business that has a politically correct impunity from criticism -- anybody who questions it is immediately smeared. The pendulum swung too far to the right during the last few decades, and whenever it does that we get a crash and then a correction. If anything the right should be happy that the correction is being led by moderates like Obama and not real liberals like Sanders, Kucinich, and me. With us, you'd have seen a correction alright... :)
