The hit was right in front of me in 14, and it was to the rear (lizard licks his eyeball :p), and into the boards. By textbook definition, that is 5 and game for hitting from behind. That being said, I'll give you that this crew didn't exactly go by the book, and there were a few times where it seemed the game would get out of control.

What a game yesterday between Dartmouth and Colgate! Last minute plan to go and boy ever was it a good one. Great hockey game!

Congrats to the Big Green, live to fight another day.

Your explanation is the definition of Boarding. It must be with excessive force to be a major. That hit was perhaps borderline, but in my opinion not worthy of a major.

In college, there is a very specific category of a check from behind. Heck, it was called in the series (albeit in open ice, so it is of the two minute variety). In the professional ranks, yes it would fall under boarding.

you're here on a tricky weekend. Weather can make or break your plans. Harvard's Museum of Natural History is a great take on a dismal day. There's the Freedom Trail Pub Crawl, which may leave in a questionable state for puck drop. For something less rowdy than that and your better half may like more, there's a Boston Chocolate Tour, which I've never heard of until recently, but got great reviews.

For this year and unfortunately the past many, we have had a history of just not being ready to play when we first hit the ice. This has just happened all too often especially int he playoffs. This is one series that we cannot have that happen. The match up is such that if we are not at full speed, full strength and primed even before we step onto the ice, this one could get bad quickly. I honestly think we can beat Harvard on any given night but they are an extremely talented team that if we are not near perfect against, can make us look very bad. Not only is this first game ultra important for us to win, but the first period and especially the first 5-10 minutes may determine the entire series. Not sure who has the ultimate responsibility to make sure they come out fired up (coaches, captains, seniors, or each individual player) but this is a great bunch of kids and a talented team when they put it together. Let's Go Red! I am not ready to pack this season in and we are very much looking forward to a possible trip to Lake Placid to see them on the big sheet of ice.

To our Season Ticket Holders:

RPI has advanced to the ECAC Second Round Playoffs v. Harvard this coming weekend, March 11th, 12th and 13th in another best of three series. All games will be played at 7:00pm

Tickets will be available through the Harvard Box Office by calling (617) 495-2211. Tickets are currently $20 each.

I know that during the regular season, people were ready at any moment to inform us in advance of the effect a win, a loss, or a tie would have on RPI's pairwise ranking.

We all know that RPI's pairwise ranking has dropped to the point that their only chance to make the NCAA tournament is to win the ECAC tournament.

I'm wondering about Harvard. They currently rank 11th in the PWR. If they are still ranked 11th after the conference tournaments are over, they will be a mortal lock to make the NCAA tournament unless all six conference champions are teams ranked 12th or lower. If the Crimson drop to, say, 14th or 15th, they'd need to hope for very few upsets in the conference tournaments.

How far is Harvard's PWR likely to slip if they lose this weekend's series to RPI?

I think Jim Dahl has your answer: http://collegehockeyranked.com/. Strange as it may seem, because of the way the ECAC tournament lines up, if Rensselaer sweeps Harvard, then faces and beats QU in the semis we do have a slight chance to get an at large bid even if we lose in the ECAC final. It must have to do with the quality points we would earn and of course it will necessitate that almost every other opponent around us falls and that there are few tournament upsets. Note from the CHN site: http://www.collegehockeynews.com/ratings/probabilityMatrix.php we have a 3% chance of winning the ECAC's and a 4% chance of making the dance. Therefore we have a non-zero chance of getting an at large. Who would have thought?

One World Sports can be found on Verizon Fios Channel 597. Requires a subscription to the Extreme package, Sports Plus Pack (Custom 1.0), or Global Sports Pack (Custom 2.0).

There's a lot to be excited about for the optimist. Controlling your own destiny is a huge plus, and I'm bullish on this Harvard matchup.

I'm tuning up my PWR scripts, hopefully I have a good reason to use them on Sunday!

Does it matter at all whether we win 2 - 0 or 2 - 1?

Yes. Winning 2-0 will put you higher in the PWR. But you guys will probably not make the NCAAs without hoisting the Whitelaw Cup.

I don't have the numbers on this, but it appears that we can still make the dance without winning in Lake Placid. I am working on the assumption that to do that, we have to sweep Harvard and beat Quinnipiac in the semis.
