ECAC East Happenings

So what's the point of having the two-year grace period if the league is still planning on keeping them?

Doesn't make much sense to me?

Perhaps the 2 year grace period is to accompany the additional SUNY and NE DIII programs in search of a conference, will the ECAC remain as is or will teams move around?

Re: ECAC East Happenings

And when was the last time Norwich did not finish in 1st place?? :D

That would be in the B.K. era (before Kreitzberg)

I still prefer the old school way of using the regular season record to determine a league's bid to a national tournament - that all ended when the silly ACC decided to use the post season tournament to decide their basketball champion. Somehow the practice caught on.

Call me crazy...and maybe its because it's all I know but I like that everybody gets a chance in the tournament. Makes that time of the year so exciting to watch for the upsets etc.

The regular season you earn the right to get the easiest pass into the big dance by being at home and playing the "weakest" teams possible in the early rounds.

Why did UNE merit a chance at the NCAAs at all last year. I think the regular season is devalued and a single fluke goal can take a team's shot at a national title away from them. And with Pool C so chancy, there's often no chance for redemption, although the NU Women did get exactly that last year, but a couple of years ago when NU lost the 1-8 game to UMB due to a hot goalie, it all blew up.

That was also the worst year (record wise) that Norwich has had under Mike McShane. 13-9-4 or something like that? That's not deserving an NCAA Tournament bid IMHO.

Also, how do you keep teams like UMass-Boston or Skidmore or something like that interested in fielding a hockey team if they know every year the only chance they have at making the tournament is by trying to win the regular season against Norwich and Castleton.

I'm old school - I get how the system works, but still - I also think if you are going to have playoffs that they should be done the way the SUNYAC and NCHA used to do it. If everybody did it that way, it would be fair and square all around. And bring back the two game series in the NCAA quarter finals.

Agree 110 percent. Those playoffs were great
