ECAC East 2010-11

Re: ECAC East 2010-11

She certainly overlooked the risk factor in taking the UmB job. With Nichols, she had nowhere to go but up. Fans would have given her three or four years to "build the program." Next year at UmB, if she has a record less than 17-10- 0, people will start placing blame and calling for change. Good Luck!

Re: ECAC East 2010-11

That may be the way that it is, but it isn't the way that it should be.

Well, I suppose it depends upon the institution and how much the school pays the coach. If I recall, Coach Bolden is making a very nice salary at Norwich, but that is not necessarily the case at other Division 3 schools. I suppose I can't blame a coach that makes a move, even a late one, if finances are playing a large role in that decision, especially in today's economy...

2010-11 prediction...Mville and Norwich get in the NCAA tournament. Good luck ECAC East this weekend(White gonna have to stand on her head like she did vs Mville)

I would have liked to see Manhattanville as the 4th team up in Northfield tomorrow.
So, who do you think is getting the Pool C bid to the NCAA?

To me, if you've signed a contract, you've signed a contract. That's a matter of personal integrity. I turned down an offer to teach at another school after I accepted my position at Norwich 30+ years ago because I had signed a contract. The salary was higher, and the academic reputation (at the time) of the other school was better, but there is such a thing as giving your word.

That's coach Bolding by the way. Anyhoo, I doubt it pays that much. Of course that depends on what you consider a livable wage. Now, on the men's side, thats probably a different story... Of course, he's been there since the Jurassic period, not to mention the take at the gate.

Coach Bolding and McShane are paid on the same scale, but Marko is at the start of it, while Mike is considerably further along.

Re: ECAC East 2010-11

UMass-Boston will be interim "coached" by Colleen Harris. Never recruited a player, coached a game or run a practice....hmm.
Nichols will be coached by Guy Angers....never coached womens hockey before....hmm.

It would also seem, with such a short bench, UMB will struggle this year. The roster has been posted on their site: http://www.beaconsathletics.com/sports/w-hockey/mtt/masb-w-hockey-mtt.html

I guess only time will tell...good luck to the girls.

It does appear, however, that they returned three of their top four scorers. But with only 7 forwards listed on the roster, I would guess they will struggle against teams that have any depth at all and can run three lines against them...

Wow, Plymouth over SMU?

Re: ECAC East 2010-11

Wow, Plymouth over SMU?

I just looked at the two teams' rosters:
USM returns two of their top three scorers ... but their top scorer is now playing for UMaine. After those three, the top point-getters had 12, 11, and 10 points total last year.

I'm picking:
Manhattanville over UMB
St A's over Nichols
Norwich over Castleton
NEC over St. Mike's
(those seem to be the easy ones)

St A's over M'ville
Nichols over UMB
Norwich over NEC
St. Mike's over Castleton (home ice advantage)
PSU over USM
Plattsburgh over Salve

PSU has twenty freshmen currently rostered - looks like they'll have far more players on the bench than they did last year. PSU might also have a chip on their shoulder this weekend- USM absolutely POUNDED them 16-0 last year. No other team put up as many goals against Plymouth as the Huskies did, not even Norwich, St. A's or Holy Cross...

Oh, why not?

Massachusetts-Boston @ Manhattanville (sentimental preference for UMB, but so short a bench!)
St. Anselm @ Nichols (continuity vote)
Castleton @ Norwich
New England College @ St. Michael's

I'm with ya on the easy ones but will be surprised with wins from St A, Nichols and PSU in that 2nd batch. I will admit though that I'm anxious to visit PSU's new rink next weekend, and also see how the team compares to last year.

I'm kind of basing my St A's pick on their win over their D1 opponent (I think it was Sacred Heart?). Nichols is a guess, and PSU is a hunch.
Let the games begin...

I agree that PSU has a chance against USM this weekend. Last year's top USM scorer is at Michigan State playing Club hockey, also on the Winter World University team not at UMaine. The 16-0 game was against PSU's second and third string goalies. Also, last year's USM top goalie is missing from this year's roster.

For the UMass Boston -- Nichols game, I'd rather see the teams sit this one out and just let the coaches or maybe the ADs duke it out at center ice. That might be more entertaining!

Actually, according to the box score, Provencher started the game for PSU, gave up 6 goals in the first, and was then relieved. She played the vast majority of the games/minutes for Plymouth last year. And according to USCHO, USM's top scorer last year was Ward ... and she is currenlty listed on the UMaine roster for 2010-11. In the end who cares, right, but I wasn't just making stuff up.

I stand corrected. I was going off of a hux post from this summer. I guess things changed before September. Congrats to her. You don't usually see kids moving frpom DIII to DI!

Re: ECAC East 2010-11

Watched both Mville games over the weekend. Last night was a chippy one with St.A's. The Valiants look impressive especially since they are playing with out three of there key players. All American Holly Nonis will give this team some fire power when she returns. Congrats to Mville W Soccer for making the ncaa tournament. Although I am not sure how happy lang is he will be without these players for at least another week.
