From a pairwise, a few weeks ago we had 5 in the top 10 and HE was on the ropes with 4 teams around the bubble. Now HE has five teams in the top 11 and we have two in the top 10 and we have 4 teams around the bubble. ugh.

Its the same HE teams each year.
Providence
BC
BU
Notre Dame
UML

If some other team comes out of the blue for them and wins the tournament and these five also make it, they will have six teams in the playoffs.

From a percentage standpoint, we got as high as .610 and NCHC dropped to .620 and it looked like we might catch them but thing diverged and they are back up to .630+

I am not familiar with the test which you used and am too lazy to look it up, but I assume that you also can't reject that they are correlated. :)

The Spearman's rank correlation coefficient (ρ) is similar to the more common Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient (r). Basically, instead of comparing actual values, you just compare the ranked lists. It's useful when the relationship isn't necessarily linear. Note that I also calculated r (and r[SUP]2[/SUP]), which found that approximately 18% of a team's win percentage could be explained by number of blocked shots. The p-value there, however, also indicated that the correlation was not statistically significant.

A correlation coefficient of 0.3 indicates a weak-to-moderate correlation, but the p-value suggests that there is a 34% chance that you'd see this level of correlation purely by chance. So we don't reject the null hypothesis (any apparent correlation is due to random chance). In statistics, you either reject or do not reject H<sub>0</sub>; you never "accept" it.

Perhaps what we need is more data ..... all of college hockey by league and going back 5 years might help. We could also use the pairwise.
