East Regional- Union vs Vermont & Quinnipiac vs Providence

Re: East Regional- Union vs Vermont & Quinnipiac vs Providence

"Gillis" doesn't seem as strong as last night according to Melrose... what a tool.

The good news is, Melrose doesn't know what he's talking about. The bad news is, we all have to listen to this clown.

Gotisbehere made about 4 saves in the crease on that play while Stevens was down and out.

Pretty good period. Union's skating and pace is just so impressive. Their first goal was a direct result of their precision passing and pace always seemingly knowing where a teammate is going to be.

Bodie went with the same shot that he rang off the crossbar almost making it 2-0. Gillies looks like he's dropping that glove bigtime and Union is trying to expose it.

I think Stevens is a bit overrated because of the defense in front of him. I'd say there are 2 or 3 on his level or better in the ECAC, much less the nation.

I would say you're likely not wrong with that. However, the same thing was said about Ben Scrivens, and he seems to be doing pretty well for himself.

I actually thought Scrivens was **** good. I think Iles is/was the best goaltender in the ECAC this year.

Re: East Regional- Union vs Vermont & Quinnipiac vs Providence

Who are the 2 or 3 ECAC goalies?

Iles and Finn for sure are at least on the same level. I was also impressed with Diebold, who had an absolutely horrendous defense in front of him but you can't really call him on the same level as Stevens because the stats simply aren't there.

Re: East Regional- Union vs Vermont & Quinnipiac vs Providence

This game has turned into a real snoozer. Providence can't get anything started and they look like they're skating on their heels. Union is in cruise control and their regular pressure is keeping PC from doing anything.

I guess Union is looking to become a NC$$ regular. Can someone force them to get a better logo?

Stevens: .931 SV% (1st in ECAC) 1.96 GAA (1st in ECAC)
Iles: .919 SV% (5th in ECAC) 2.17 GAA (4th in ECAC)
Finn: .918 SV% (7th in ECAC) 2.35 GAA (5th in ECAC)

Stevens won ECAC Goalie of the Year and in my opinion, is the MVP of Union. He also made one game-changer save at the end of the 1st period today.

I know the statistics. Everyone knows the statistics. But as Tobey Harrah said, "Statistics are like a girl in a bikini. They show a lot, but not everything."

Union awfully impressive in their two wins in Bridgeport. I'll be cheering for them in Philly for sure!

Gilles was also .931 SV% and tied with Stevens at 5th at the start of the game. What is most important is that Stevens was the best goalie on that ice and made three "lights out" saves.

Who would have believed that the Union third line Hatch, Novak and Sullivan line would have come out and dominated the weekend. Two seniors and a junior. How do you spell depth?

Not meaning any disrespect but IMO the two ECAC teams we faced in our ECAC tournament were better that Vermont and PC. Cornell hit harder and Colgate was faster. I think Colgate or Cornell could have beaten either one.

I hope we get another shot at BC.

Yep, I can agree with the uvm comment...but PC was shut down by union's system today.

IMO, Union is a soft team that will get exposed by BC or UML

PC's physicality was completely negated by Union today though...so what makes you so sure UML or BC will definitely be able to expose them?

Really? Man, I can't wait for the new 60" TV that I ordered to show up. I guess I'm getting old.
I was right behind the goal and there was no stopping that shot, it was a redirected laser.
