East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

That's a great option, but unfortunately, unlikely to happen. The RPI pep band has not had the same commitment that they had in past seasons and are done for the academic year. I also know that they have elections this Saturday and those will take all day.

I'm looking forward to a great weekend of hockey at the TUC.

Contact the UNH Band director; if it means they get to watch both games, you could probably convince them to at least play for you on Friday! :D :D

I am driving the UNH Pep Band there, so it's really all about ME seeing both games . . .

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

Sorry, not great news for DU fans for post NCAAs.

98.5 Sport Hub radio reported this AM that the Bruins expect to sign Joe Colborne when DU's run in the NCAAs is over. Sports Hub is decent at covering College Hockey and has had interviews with college coaches (Jack Parker was a riot) on their weekly Tuesday hockey show that is typically devoted to the Bruins.

Tone of the report sounded like it was a done deal, just waiting for Joe to be able to put ink to paper without loss of NCAA eligibility. Was a short report nothing detailed.

From what I've seen and read, I can't imagine many DU fans will be too surprised at this news. Big Joe looks ready for the next step and that size sure is hard to teach.

Still ain't no fun having guys leave early.

A Tale of Haves and Have Nots
Number of NHL Draft Picks:
Denver - 13
Cornell - 5
UNH - 5
RIT - 0

And how many does Minnesota have out playing golf right now??:p

There was an interesting interview with a Cornell BB player on the radio the other day on a similar topic. Basically how they don't have any big NBA prospects, but they do have guys who plan from the start to be part of the team for all 4 years. Of course, that's not enough to completely overcome the talent gap, but it is a reason that teams like RIT can occasionally beat teams like Minnesota, or why CU basketball is in the sweet 16. That, and the weight of high expectations can get heavy.

(Have also enjoyed the general maturity and good-naturedness of this thread, perhaps except for that rabid apparent RIT fan from CC!!)

Second DU player in two years (Tyler Bozak) to get the "Rookie Max" contract. This should only help recruiting of elite prospects in the future.

I like the timing of the announcement. He'll be super dialed in the rest of the way. He wants to go out on top no doubt.

Sounds like a huge distraction to the entire team to me. ;)

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

I'd be shocked if the Cornell band wasn't there. The game against Kentucky is Thursday night in Syracuse...short bus ride to Albany from there on Friday and if need be (doing some serious finger crossing and praying here) could drive back or split squad to go back to Syracuse Saturday

I'd also be shocked if the Cornell band wasn't there. We had a full pep band representation in Albany last week plus a band in Jacksonville. And a couple years back, the pep band went to Harvard for a Friday night hockey game and still made it to Penn for a football game at noon on Saturday.

The only way the band wouldn't be there was if there were three events going on simultaneously, like a few years ago where we had both men's and women's BBall in the NC$$ and the men's ECAC hockey tourney all on the same weekend. And even then, I think we scavenged an alumni band for Albany.

For his sake, and DU's, I hope you are right. Some, having made it to payday, might mail in the rest. It's all a matter of character now (and I don't claim to know anything about this gent's).

Can't disagree with that (you b@$t@rd$ ;) )

JVR did that from UNH last year.

I am hoping that the other potential, Kessel - who isn't ready in his own end and has shown a desire to move up when he is ready, UNH wanted him a year earlier then he came. I hope he will return at least for his Junior year maybe even Senior before jumping ship. Based on who he has the opportunity to practice with in the summer I think he will make an informed decision when the time comes. Recent article noted the link between Phil and Blake Kessel with Ryan Suter and his dad Bob (80 gold metal) who coached them all. (in mites?)

I think there is a potential 3rd for UNH (Burke - has size seems to know how to use it at times but is very raw, shows flashes) but he either takes a massive leap in one year or he isn't a flight risk till the end of his Junior year at the earliest.

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

Driving up for this regional; I need college hockey. Appreciate the DU, RIT, and UNH scouting reports that have been posted. Any Cornell fans care to do the same?

I'll probably blend in with the Cornell fans from afar in my BU jersey. ;)

I present this link, for your enjoyment.

Enjoy. :D

Pretty funny. I didn't waste all 4:30 of my life "fast forwarding" through much of it.

Also seem "highlights" of the first meeting.

This shows all the sloppy play UNH needs to avoid, UNH had been off for like 24 days before that game and Cornell played - poorly - the week before. Need to correct the uncovered guys out front, and miscommuication. Hopefully the team has seen this video. Even as poor as UNH played if Burke had hit that open net it would have been 4-3 late and who knows.

Foster played a very solid game and UNH will need that again. The real key will be what the other guys do. Some of the guys on INCH have said that was one of the best games Cornell played. Got hit those guys down low, all of Cornell's goals came from solid play down low.

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

With the Colborne speculation, good chance that DU's entire 1st line including Ruegsegger, Rakhshani and Colborne all sign contracts right after the NCAAs. The Islanders hold Rock's rights and Toronto holds Ruegs'. Rocks and Ruegs are seniors who have already completed their studies and finished school two weeks ago. When Colborne first came to DU, we all thought he would be a one and done but he came back for his sophomore year. I don't think any of us are shocked that he will probably sign.

Re: East Regional: #1 Denver v. #4 RIT; #2 Cornell v. #3 New Hampshire

Check out the DU-RIT side by side matchup.
http://wchahockeyblog.blogspot.com/

The numbers are pretty even, the quality of competition not so much, but it will take a strong effort by DU to move to the next round.

Go Pioneers!

Interesting stats. DU much better in 1 goal games and winning games when being outshot. Reason = Chevy (for the most part). DU is very good at winning close games.

We'd be happy to help arrange a signing ceremony for this Saturday morning ...;)
