Neumann survives against Cortland 3-2.

Prez and I roll the dice and come up huge in the LPS.

Bob Emery's dump, chase, and cycle philosophy isn't working. Only seven shots on net through the first 40 minutes of play. Norwich is also playing sound defensively. PSUC has had multiple odd man rush opportunities, and have failed to capitalize. I hope the Cards can step it up in the third period!

Norwich has played sound defense.... Followed by.... PSU has has multiple odd man rushes???

Pretty much yes. Plattsburgh now knows where they need to be to be one of the top teams in the nation. A bad bounce in goal #1 (posts up or down doesn't matter), and a very BAD defensive giveaway for goal #2. Plattsburgh had their chances, especially in the third. A few posts, a great defensive slide blocking the 2 on 1 pass. Plattsburgh also held Norwich to under half of their shots on goal for the season. It seemed that Plattsburgh wanted to focus on defense the first two periods and went into a shell, and the few mistakes Plattsburgh made, Norwich capitalized on. Once Plattsburgh opened things up in the third, they seemed to get a lot better offensive flow. A 2-0 (or 3-0 to get technical) to a Norwich team is nothing to hang heads low on. Deffensivly a great game. I thought the Cards did a pretty decent job limiting Thomas to some perimeter shots and the defense did a decent job winning the one on one battles against the Norwich top 3. A bad pass and a couple missed posts (or hand pass goals) and Plattsburgh was right in that game. Nothing to be really worried about, just have to take it and improve.

My sense was the game score was about right. One thing I think that people miss about this Norwich team is the great job the defensemen do. Everything gets redirected to the outside and the opposition gets very few shots. One reason why Carroll's Save % looks so mundane is that the only saves he is called on to make are the Grade A chances. That's McShane hockey, and it's been that way at Norwich for years.

It did seem that Plattsburgh was trying to go into a shell and hoped to win a low scoring game against Norwich. That's a pretty good strategy, because you don't want to get caught trying to run and gun when you've got Thomas, Mulvey, Cotnoir, and now Lindensmith ready to take it the other way. Elmira seems more inclined to play the run and gun style, so we shall see how that works out tomorrow. Should be a good one. I think that the Consi game should be interesting. I don't think either team wants another loss, especially Middlebury. They had a dead spot at just the wrong time and it cost them.

Elmira played run and gun with Oswego and got smoked two nights in a row. If they can't figure out a way to slow down the Cadets counter attack it will be a long (or short) night for McDonald.
