So, our son is planning on going to play hockey in Canada this season. Had to apply for a Student Visa for him as he will be attending the local HS while at the Hockey Academy. Our first attempt was a "NO" from the Canadian government. While, yes, we need to submit some more financial paperwork to prove that we can support him while he is there (how much support does a minor need other than pocket money when the Academy, with their tuition, takes care of the dorm/living expenses, travel, food, etc), but there was this line in the denial:
"Furthermore, the purpose of the applicant's visit to Canada is not consistent with a temporary stay given the details provided in the application. Weighing the factors in this application. I am not satisfied that the applicant will depart Canada at the end of the period authorized for their stay."
Honestly, we have looked at moving to Canada (I can trace family back through Canada). The Academy told us to scrub our social media to try and be as "apolitical" as possible. LOL!
