Copper sulfide mine 10 miles or less upstream from the Boundary Waters in NE Minnesota. As most people know, sulfide mining and water don't mix, but hey, let's throw a mine in with the lakes, rivers and swamps of the Arrowhead region. What could happen? A Chilean company is behind it.
Ontario's Quetico Provincial Park shares the US/Canadian border with the Boundary Waters. Sorry, Ontario......

Chilean company that apparently will send the copper to China for smelting/processing (and where it may not even ever make its way back to the US as a usable product). So the US takes the environmental hit while other countries reap the rewards. Winning.

The only "saving grace" in this is that Minnesota has some pretty tough environmental standards that it would have to pass when reviewed. As long as the State Legislature doesn't got full MAGAt, I think it would have a tough time passing.
At least that is what I have read. So, still a long way to go, but what was passed today nullified the ban on mining in this area, opening the door to the possibility.

Holy smokes. Scott Bessent is actually telling Americans to change their withholdings to get a “raise” now. Which you then would have to pay back next tax year. A desperate and sick plea to make it appear like you are making more leading up to the midterms.

Explanation: My job allows people to do batshit crazy volunteer OT when volume allows it (like 72 hours over 6 days)... What someone somewhere tried was asking to be "exempt" from withholdings for THAT particular check that had 144 hours on it... When word got out, that idea caught on like wildfire cause you got a stupid $$$number$$$ over double your regular check...
Well, several employees never switched back their w-4 to "normal" withholdings after doing their work Hell Week(s)... So they had ZERO withholdings taken out the remainder of the year... So come the following April, they got a nice bill from Uncle Sam that was in the $6,000-9,000 range
This will NOT go over will with GenPop out in the wild....
