I was being facetious. It was snark directed at the Dems for doing next to nothing (outside all too few of them) to make this the #1 talking about all across the country, hell even the world.I would normally say yes...but seeing as ICE is still running around Minneapolis beating up homeless people and other citizens...no.
Think about this...why is nobody except locals in Minneapolis to get their photo ops? If this happens on the coasts every Democrat that wants to run for President is probably flying in so they can have a PC and milk it for some cred. Now admittedly I am not following things as deeply as I should because I have to work (in Minneapolis) all weekend but nothing seems to be mentioned.
And before someone says "they are in DC for votes" that has never stopped them before. Meanwhile the Republicans are spreading their lies with about as minimal of pushback as you can get.
There needs to be someone who is telling the people of Minneapolis we are here with you and we got you, someone who is acting like a leader. Tweets and half arsed statements aren't going to calm people down. Walz calling for kumbaya aint going to do it either. Being downtown yesterday felt unlike anything I have ever felt and I have worked there for 17 years. And the Democratic Party position seems to be...just chill and wait it out they will move on to somewhere else sooner or later. Great plan if ICE is de-escalating but they are walking up to people with large guns saying "havent you learned your lesson yet" and arresting anyone Brown they can find. (more Native Americans have been arrested...cause they are often illegal immigrants) We are past the point of funny hats and costumes and despite being one of the few dependable Blue Strongholds it feels like Washington has basically said "cool story but rich people want us to care about something else!". That may not be what the truth is, but right now that is exactly how it feels here.
I mean Tucker Carlson is more on point than the Dem Leadership whenever this comes up. (mainly cause they avoid discussing it like Mike Johnson does a Donald Trump tweet)
For whatever reason, mostly because they are spineless cowards, Dem leadership has determined that standing up to the Trump regime over immigration is a losing proposition.
You could see it when they were discouraging their membership from talking about the prisons in El Salvador, or making visits to them.
This is just more of the same. They think Americans like Donnie's hard line on immigrants, and they'll pay a political price for taking any different view, afraid the public will feel they're weak on the issue.
If a few people end up dead, that's a small price to pay.
Iran can't kill it's protesters but we sure can.
Democrats wait for their Republican colleagues to come around and join them. Republicans never do that. I heard Mark Warner AGAIN this morning wondering when his Republican friends will speak out against Trump. Hell, even Crockett did that last week. The Democrats always run scared from Republican framing of them as radicals. Ironically, the actual radicals, the Reactionary Right, is never afraid. They just call themselves Real Muricans and call anybody not as racist and sociopathic as they a woke commie queer.
There hasn't been a brave Dem since Molly Ivins. There hasn't been a brave Dem office holder since Paul Wellstone.
