Dump Term 2 Part 3: "But I Say Unto You, Hate Thy Enemies." -- Revulsions 5:44

Fewer. But yikes. Don't we have a lot more air traffic now?
There isn't a 1:1 comparison (because why would anyone keep a record of things like that?), but in 1980 there was 5 million flights globally; in 2024 there was 7.4 million domestic flights alone.

But they have way better tools, now, too. Just like a lot fewer farmers today produce more food than ever before.

To think these clowns are running circles around Senate Dems...
Not that hard to picture, unfortunately. The entire Senate chamber already huffs its own farts, now factor that in with how geriatric and entrenched the Dem Senate "leadership" is. They are convinced control is going to flip back at the midterms as long as they just sit around and let Button Mushroom do whatever. Meanwhile, people like my mom who forever play centrist and can't envision a world in which they have to firmly pick a side, think the Dems should just let the Republicans have whatever they want and let people get screwed so they learn a lesson.

The problem is, the people who are going to get porked the hardest aren't going to learn. They don't want to learn. The majority of them just want a world in which they, their spouses and their children can find good-paying work and be successful at life without taking out $100k in loans to get a generic business degree from Directional Buttfuck State U. Of course, you have the radicalized element of dudes who are lost to racism and misogyny, but fuck them.

The normies will see the Democrats doing nothing to help and they will reject their entire message.

I was wondering because you would think it has exploded but OTOH the consolidation of airlines killed redundant routes, i.e. competition, i.e. the whole point of deregulating the airlines in the first place.

I do not know what to make of the deal yet. There are a lot of moving parts. I am trying to tamp down my instinctive fury and actually work my way through all the terms.

On the first face of it, yes, it looks like an unconscionable abdication of responsibility, and also a howler own goal by the Democrats. And it may turn out to be. I am not hopeful that our leadership outfoxed the fasc since holding firm was already destroying them. Even if it turns out to be on balance more good than bad my money is on that being a "Homer" (when good things happen accidentally despite terrible reasoning) since, well, Handy had Schumer's number earlier about his only constituents being hedge fund fucks.

But I want to try to untangle all the strings before I light my faggot, so to speak.

Schumer had 8 defections, including his #2. He has to go as minority leader, because he clearly has no sway over his caucus.

Personally, I'm flying a bunch in the coming weeks so I'm probably benefitting from the govt reopening, but Jesus H. Christ, why the fark would you cave now? It makes no farking sense. Their reasoning is bad and they should feel bad.
