Dump Term 2, 1.01: Sleep Now in the Fire

That might actually be a self-own for the idiots considering how many conservatives come out of the Air Force Academy.
I was gonna say, isn't Colorado Springs a religious nutjob haven? And isn't the Air Force known to be far more evangelical than the rest of the services?

Yeah, just remember that Brooks, Stephens, and Kristol aren't flipping because they're suddenly leftists. They're flipping because they are no longer in the right-wing's chosen inner circle of pundidiots and they miss feeling important.

Maybe. Maybe not. Kristol seems genuinely interested in liberal and even some truly progressive positions. And it hasn’t been a sudden switch. It seems genuine and sincere. Doesn’t have the hallmarks of grifting.

Would you provide some examples? I see absolutely nothing in his record where he supports liberal, much less progressive positions. He voted for Biden/Harris, and Harris/Walz, which is far more than “moderate” Susan Collins can say. He endorsed McAuliffe against Youngkin. But all of this is because he hates the Trumpian version of Republicans, not because he suddenly believes in liberal/progressive policies. Either I’m missing something or i misunderstand what constitutes liberal/progressive policies these days.

he’s indicated he supports abolishing ice
He has been a vocal trans rights advocate
He’s been ripping newsom for a bevy of things (his latest distraction comment; his podcast nonsense)

I’m not saying he’s a full progressive, but he’s come around on a number of issues including some of the most foundational like trans rights. And frankly, if he’s still a bit centristy on certain economic policies, I’m not going to tell him to find another tent.

Glad he’s come around on a couple things- really, really, like really late in the game. Quite possibly too late. But of course we’ll take him. I’m pragmatic. Have to be living as a Democrat in Kentucky. I never said I didn’t want him on our side in the fight against fascism. That said, he’s still a piece of shit, and fuck him for helping build, nurture, and feed the monster that is the Republican Party of today.

William Kristol is another amoral opportunist like Maureen Dowd, Bill Maher, Dick Morris, Megyn Kelly, Peggy Noonan. They don't believe anything, they just have a nose for where the money current runs and they move as it moves. Kristol's father Irving was the real deal; the son is a political nepo baby. His whole life has been a punditry gravy train.

This is another feeding.

All hands on deck, but this is a scorpion, so always be aware.

This.

I'm pretty sure the AFA has been sued on numerous occasions for their religious zealotry.

It's like Texas wanting to "defund liberal colleges" and then yanking funding from A&M.
They've indicated that most (all?) of the cuts were to civvy PhD jobs though, so basically firing the people they think are the liberals. 🤷‍♂️

Wow. The Supreme Court, in a late night/ early morning ruling, stopped Donnie from sending more deportation flights to El Salvador.

The lower court judge hearing the objections of the immigrants lawyers said she was powerless to do anything about the flights, given the SC's earlier rulings, but said she could ask for their input. Which she did, at 9 o'clock last night.

And the SC in an opinion dated Saturday, meaning early this morning, stopped the flights by a 7-2 ruling. Very rare for the full court to have such a hearing in the week morning hours.

You can guess who the two dissenters were.

I'm pretty much at this point.

I officially applied for my first international job today. Honest to God, I really think by the start of the next school year there's a 50/50 shot we're not in the US. And law is not exactly a profession that encourages migration.
I think I could swing it, but I do have certain requirements. Like these offshore recruiters pitching me jobs in Dubai. I don't care that Dubai doesn't have an income tax, my wife and I still aren't moving to Repressed Islamic Vegas, thanks.

Unfortunately, a lot of the European jobs I've seen in my area of expertise require proof of at least B1/B2 fluency in the vernacular, and neither my Spanish nor my German are up to scratch any longer. I should probably should invest some time and money in refreshing at least one of them, especially now that you can hire a native tutor remotely from numerous online services.

Hegseth is losing 4 members of his staff (3 because of suspected leaks) and it sounds like the Pentagon is pure chaos. Get your bets down...
