Dump Term 2, 1.01: Sleep Now in the Fire

No. This is not correct. Liberals are the paternalists. They want to keep the present system but give marginalized groups set asides and moral victories and flags as compensation (as long as it doesn't cost them anything personally). That is inherently infantilizing.

The Left understands capitalism is rotten to the core and says, "we have to put on our big girl panties, smash it, and take the rich's stolen wealth. We need real, significant, system-level change that will also gore the oxen of a lot of well-heeled people to the left of center." And liberals react like a scalded baby.

Note the personally disparaging language of liberals towards Leftists: they want to be saviors or be seen as heroes. This is obvious evasion. Liberals likely realize they are prolonging a system that fucks the Poors, so they need an out. Thus, it is "Utopian" to change the system. It is sophomoric to oppose the status quo at a fundamental level. Those who are co-opted are "the adults in the room."

It's obvious.

Liberals are the hypocrites. Meanwhile, the mistake the Left makes isn't hypocrisy, it's stupidity. They worship the Poors and have a militarist belief that a tyranny of the Poors would lead to a just society. It wouldn't. The Poors are incompetent and they tend heavily towards authoritarianism and cowardice. They fall for demagogues in and out of the pulpit. They are idiots, and rule by them would be..., well, you're looking at it right now... does it look like a Paradise of Justice?

The Left/Right divide is obsolete. Screw the Left, the Right, and the Liberals.

Protect the smart from the stupid. This is The One True Way.
I think you are being semantical on language. I think what we are both describing is "neoliberalism" which needs to die. In fact most things people like Ezra Klein, Pod Save America or anyone associated with the Obama/Clinton wing needs to be walled off from decision making.

World Cup is gonna be a disaster!

Handy is a poor

Complete garbage, jebby. The average 0
P/E ratio of the S&P 500 is 21.9, ie companies are about 5% profitable. That plus some capital gains gives you the traditional 8% market return. That is not a market that is overvalued.
Stocks are absolutely over valued, this has been common knowledge for the last 4 years.

They are currently pumped up on 5 years of unprecedented stimulus. Company earnings and stock prices are way out of whack.

The Dow didn’t go from 25k to 45k in just over 4 years on real growth. Lmfao.

Don’t do anything stupid like sell right now. Unless you want to incur a real loss, which that clown Scooby believes he is experiencing. Lmfao.

As a trans woman who's educated, yet poor AF:

I'm not obligated to be kind to small town dweebs who think anything LGBTQ related is "indoctrination" and "grooming," then come to Pride festivals with their signs about how God hates us.

But I've also lost patience with a lot of liberals, who know the house is on fire and refuse to do anything about it, besides have a week of Visibility and Awareness about the house being on fire.

And the words of the prophets were written on the unmarked van walls.

Having written two celebrated books on fascism in the 20th century, Jewish-American scholar Jason Stanley draws direct parallels with the second Donald Trump presidency.

"Fascism is what the Trump administration is now doing," he told DW of the president's second term in office.

In late March, Stanley announced his decision to quit Yale University and move to Canada, where he will work at the University of Toronto's Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. He follows Timothy Snyder and Marci Shore, two Yale history professors who are a married couple, who also left for Toronto after the US presidential election.

"I'm afraid of being targeted by the federal government," he said in relation to his decision to leave Yale.

Referencing the vulnerability of immigrant academics who could be deported for speaking out under Trump, he added: "I'm leaving because my non-citizen colleagues cannot speak about politics on social media… or else they might have their visas pulled."

Is the US turning authoritarian under Trump?

I’m definitely at the point where I don’t have empathy for Trumpers and to a large degree loathe them. No doubt there were some people who were ‘duped’ but honestly their logic for voting for him was incredibly flawed at best.

At this point don’t we have to consider that he is legitimately trying to sabotage the country?
Oh fuck off. You were still posting gross shit about Dems and Biden until the election. You’re a fucking fraud

I remember him calling me a liberal on here while again mentioning his multiple homes. Like he knows anything about me outside the board, and I certainly can guess he doesn’t want to be personally effected

A lot of us he disparages as libs are all for being personally affected.

I'm a Progressive so I'm not sure where I fall. I have been fully radicalized against all forms of capitalism now so there is that ;)

I believe in the superior efficiency of the free market to determine consumer demand and market supply, while also recognizing and acknowledging that substantially higher taxes and regulations are necessary to build & sustain public infrastructure and protect the average person from being defrauded and/or exploited. Because let's face it, many people are assholes who will screw anyone and everyone over to make an extra dollar.

And there it is, American citizens should be shipped off to foreign prisons. Straight from the horse's ass, erm, mouth.

Does choking people to death on subways qualify for this special prison offer?

Hey, it's only 2. :-(

The point of all that was not to piss on any given person on the Left or Center-left, it was to suggest that ship has sailed. Giving the Capitalists a black hat and the Proletariat the white hat doesn't fit in a world where the latter are just as if not more likely to aggressively support horrific policies and ideologies.

The issue of who owned the means of production was critical once, like land ownership was critical once, like lordship was critical once... I don't think these things entirely extinguish (though we did a pretty good job with lordship) but they are joined by other factors, and the strategies that fixated on just one or the other become less and less effective. I'm not clever enough to figure out exactly what the new gestalt is where we have to train our anger and energy. It has something to do with long-term rather than short-term thinking, but all the ways we have couched that like sustainability or stakeholder vs shareholder capitalism don't quite make the nut. "Social and economic husbandry." Something like Robert Owen or Auguste Comte or older, Giambattista Vico, or WAY older, Cato the Elder.

Something that ties together why we respect democratic traditions over smash and grab politics, and environmental protection over smash and grab profiteering, and sustainable economics over smash and grab corporate looting, and the law of nations over smash and grab colonialism and conquest.

Dump is a special soul because he embodies ALL the childish, short-sighted, entitled selfishness of all of these approaches. What we need is to cast the argument far more broadly than an economic system, even more broadly than racial and ethnic tolerance or gender equality, to whatever that overdetermining virtue is. The irony is the traditional term for it was: conservatism.
