Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome!

Thanks to Gurt, I happened upon the Greenbush Bar. Great pizza, and they have Pappy and Stagg. Goodfellas-type setting....me likey.

That is a GREAT place. It's a throwback for sure.

My days of looking for a bar with big pours are long gone. Give me quality liquor and just don't make it weak.

Back in the day though, our favorite bars were the ones where the rum & Coke (or whatever & whatever) was rum with a splash (at most).

I happened to get there right at opening, so bs'ed with the 'tender. Worth it. I do like the place.

An excellent bar. One my friends and I have often used as a tastebud-muting (in a good way) stepping stone to the hangover highlander that is Mondays.

****, but I could go for their pizza right about now.

Last night's was thin crust, olive oil, bacon, cheese, tomatoes and fresh arugula.

Good GAWD it was awesome.

Yeah, their pizza sounds pretty awesome right about now.

Killing another mixer bottle as shelf space is at a premium and need to eliminate redundancies amongst my mixers.

Only need so many quality mixers.

Flor de Cana 7 & Cokes

Appears to be 5 in the bottle. I'm on number 2.

Also having a chaser of Dos Maderas 5+5 (neat) which is the rum I bought up in Rochester. It's aged 5 years in the Caribbean and then sent to Spain where it spends another 5 years in used sherry casks. Quite nice.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

Found a bottle of Fulton Libertine Barrel Aged for cheap tonight, so I bought that one just so I could have one of my other two bottles. :)

It's QUITE tasty. They only made 2160 bottles. I'm having the 1514. Saving the 318 and the 577 for much, much later.

I've been meaning to get a nice sipping tequila for the bar. Have several nice mid-range tequilas that make a great marg, but nothing on par with the sipping rums and whiskeys that I have.

Based upon reviews and recommendations (have a couple of friends who are into tequila like I am rum), I picked up a bottle of Corzo Reposado. Been eyeing it up at the store for several months now.

Quite nice... :)

Killed one!

Flor de Cana 7 year

A really, really nice mixer with Coke, but I have 7 or 8 others that are just as good as mixers. Won't restock at this point and now I have one less bottle doubled up on the bar.

Next Dead Man Walking is probably the Cruzan Single Barrel. Will be hard to refrain from restocking as it is incredibly good with Coke.

You and your mixers....*shakeshead* To each his own, I suppose; I like a good mixer now and then (see: The Library in Houghton and their Maker's Old-Fashioneds), but if it's quality liquor...the rocks is all I need at most for a drink. Depends on the liquor. :)

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

Whiskey isn't brought to new amazingly heavenly heights by Coke as easily as rum is. Even though I can thoroughly enjoy a high quality rum straight, a splash of Coke just amplifies everything and can be hard to resist.

Some rums (and whiskeys) are meant to be mixed and NOT enjoyed neat. They're just not good enough and/or they are distilled with mixing in mind.

When in a social situation like tonight with guests over, I typically want mixers.

Most of the times that I drink something neat are more contemplative such as after dinner or on the deck or in front of the fire - oftentimes alone times.

I have admitted in the past that rum is a liquor I am very unfamiliar with overall, as to variation, quality, etc. I will concede that with no hesitation.

Heck, I had the Corzo neat this afternoon.

What do you want from me!?!? :p

Guests or no guests, I'm not gonna mix something like Woodford Double Oaked or similar. ;) Just saying.

Guests? It's usually beer time, or Evan/Cokes or 7&7s.

Yep. What I mix is not on that level, but it's far above rail or even Seagram's.

Trust me, I've learned to recognize the difference.

Have a whole shelf of stuff that I wouldn't mix.

Have several shelves of high quality mixing liquors. I like variety and I just won't settle for schwag anymore.

I think we are talking on the same level. I won't touch crap like Phillips and such, mixer or no mixer. And I admit to Seagram's in 7&7s. That's about as low as I go though. *tips hat*
