Great Lakes Brewing The Wright Pils.

Eh, not a fan. Tastes too light and watery for me.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

Got to try Breckenridge Vanilla Porter Nitro and Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro yesterday for the USA match... Both were on tap...

I was pleasantly surprised with the Nitro tap experience.... It took the existing flavors and seemed to make them more vivid... Pretty significant difference from the normal versions of these beers... This is something I will be seeking out if presented with the opportunity in the future...

Also, the place we were at has 72 beers on tap

Left Hand also has a Russian Imperial Stout Nitro, but in that case, I think the Nitro version actually takes away from the quality of the beer. It's still very good, but it just takes away a certain something of a regular RIS.

New Belgium Snapshot. It's their wheat beer, and I will say this: better than Fat Tire.

Rush River Amber Ale is just as good as Fat Tire.

This weekends selection of "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly." The Good: Rush River Amber Ale. The Bad: Shiner Bock (but is honorable mention of good). The Ugly: Coors Light.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

There's nothing wrong with Shiner Bock.

I had their Wild Hare Pale Ale and Bavarian Black Lager this weekend, and both were very good.

Drank a bunch of **** beer at Summerfest, Miller Lite, Coors Light and High Life. They were ****ty cheap beer, obviously. Unfortunately the lines for Water Street Brewery, and Lakefront were friggin huge, like 20-30 minutes long, so I decided to just go with **** beer with no line whatsoever.

Had a few Capital Ambers during golf yesterday, that is a solid beer. A standard amber, nothing special, but a good easy to drink beer. Like the previously mentioned Rush River Amber and Fat Tire. All are very similar and in the same class, in my opinion.

Just got home and I enjoyed a Deschutes Fresh Squeezed, a solid IPA, but not my favorite of the type. Then had a New Glarus Back 40 Bock, which is a really good bock beer, better than Shiner Bock, and I really like Shiner Bock.

No, there is nothing wrong with Shiner Bock at all. I liked the Rush River more than the Shiner Bock for our holiday festivities.

While you were at Summerfest, did you partake in the made specifically for Summerfest wine coolers?

Can't go wrong with Shiner... I still see it as a better Yeungling... of course, Devil's Backbone Vienna Lager trumps both (DB is a Virginia beer that's doing pretty well.)

edit: there's a texas themed bbq place in DC in the Penn Quarter neighborhood... sells a lot of shiner and not just shiner bock.

No....I don't think I even saw wine coolers, and if I did, I highly doubt I'd try one. :p

Had a few more last night, for gits and shiggles. After the Fresh Squeezed and Back 40 I had a Lugene, and finished the night with an Evil Twin Yang Imperial IPA. The Lugene was Lugene, not much else to say there. The Yang was pretty good. I was expecting extreme hopiness, but was surprised with how drinkable it was. It was very hoppy, but it wasn't over the top. I liked it, but I probably wouldn't have more than 1 at a time.

Shiner is ok. I wouldn't ever buy it but I'd drink it if offered.

Stillwater Artisinal Folklore Stout. In****ingcredible. Highly recommended. Wow.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

Heading to WI next week...thanks to this thread (Gurt, IIRC), there is a bar that sells the Pappy. All of them, I think. So much on the bucket list.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

Tried a few brews over the weekend:

21st Amendment Hell or High Watermelon - Meh. On a very hot day, sitting in the sun, this would probably be very refreshing. It is light and crisp and perfect for hot and humid. As it was when I had this weekend, it was just ok, and it got pretty sickening by the end of the can. If you have the chance to try 1 can, give it a go, but I wouldn't recommend going and getting a 6 pack.

Stillwater Artisinal Of Love and Regret - This is another one of their Saison/Farmhouse ales, and it was very good. It has a distinct "Belgian" flavor to it (I don't know how else to describe it), and it is easy to drink. Another winner from Stillwater Artisinal.

New Belgium Transatlantique Kriek (Lips of Faith) - This was very interesting. On Untappd it is categorized as a lambic, but the taste falls in between lambic and sour beer. It definitely has the fruity tones of a lambic, but it finishes more sour than other lambics I've had. I'd say, if you like the sweetness of lambics, you wouldn't like this one. But if you are a fan of sour beers, you'll probably really enjoy this beer. Also, it is not so sour, like some sours are, so people that aren't huge fans of sours, may still find this one tasty.

Badger Hill Cherry Double Dunkel - Awesome beer. This stuff just had the perfect touch of cherry flavor. It was excellent, and I highly recommend it.

I love the Kriek, and I despise sour beers, and like a lambic now and again.

The BHCDD is indeed awesome.

New Holland Brewing White Hatter Belgian Style White Pale Ale. Strong notes of citrus, spice, and hops.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

Stopped by the Greenbush Bar in Madison for some Pappy.

Ok, went with the 12/15/20 flight (1/2 oz pour of each). The 12 was solid, the 15 was disappointing, and the 20 was superb.

Had a pizza there (also very good) then decided to go with the big boy and got the 23 (full pour). It lives up to the hype, IMO.

Met up with friends at Karben4 Brewery, and that is a solid little place. Had their Nitro Scottish Ale, Smoked Porter, and Irish Red. All were excellent.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

While in Milwaukee (for the locals: Hales Corners to be exact) buddy and I stopped into a local bar. Um, wow on the scotch selection. Had myself a Balvenie 17YO. I have had it before but it is a tougher one to find in stores.

Addendum: for bbdl's groomsmen's gifts, we got booze as part of the gift. Got the Balvenie 14YO (extra matured in rum casks) for mine. Quite funny, since I had mentioned to my buddy the night before that the 14YO was the other tougher Balvenie to find.

After the groomsmen's dinner most of us headed to our hotel patio (we have about 2/3 of the hotel booked) and had a social hour. Let's just say a LOT of scotch was being had.

I expect tonight will be more of the same. It's tough being a booze snob. ;)

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

Currently working my way through New Holland Brewing's offerings. This week, I'm trying the Paleooza.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

I know this may sound absurd, but I had a Schlitz while golfing on Saturday morning before the wedding, and it wasn't nearly as terrible as it should have been. I have tried much worse cheap swill than that stuff.

edit: Also, all indications are that the Spotted Cow and 1554 kegs at the wedding were huge hits. We followed up the 2 kegs of good beer with a keg of Miller Lite, because by that point it really didn't matter. Finished all 3 by 11:00, and had the option of tapping a spare keg they had at the facility, of Coors Light. Decided against it because we didn't want to have a bunch of beer left over.
