The drink made with cachaca is a Caipirinha.

It's good but would probably be better suited for a hot day on the deck as it is very crisp and would imagine it to be refreshing on a hot and humid day.

Gonna buy some mint leaves tomorrow and make some mint juleps for the Derby. Rubette has never had one; figured I'd have to change that.

And 45th Parallel's Rye is hitting stores, now.

After the Busch Light I decided to class it up a little. Now I'm enjoying a Woodford Double Oaked over whiskey rocks.

Tried to continue the Border Bourbon = Wild win theme...might only work during elimination games.

I like it quite a bit. One of my favorite brands of the higher end stuff that I have.

Was drinking the Old Reserve 2000 - Jamaica last night. There are a series of 7 or 8 Old Reserve 2000s from different locations and each start (I believe) in that location and are aged and then head on to France (again, I believe) to be aged some more in Cognac barrels.

I also have 20th Anniversary X.O. which is one of my 2 favorite rums that I've had. This one is not aged in Cognac barrels.


Hard to describe them (the two I have) other than very smooth as they are aged. They also tend to be nicely sweet, but not overly so.

Absolutely crush other rums that may appear on the top shelf next to them such as Appleton, Angostura, Rhum Barbancourt, etc. IMHO, of course.

I will always have Plantation in my collection and I can't say that about every brand.

When I was comparing, I was meaning the aged (10 years or less) variants of those brands.

Of course, this is just my opinion. Others may think Appleton is the bomb.

Grilled out some delicious burgers tonight and decided that beer was in order.

Oberon. Was surprised to see it in the store so early.

Always been a favorite of mine and went perfectly with the burger and fries.

Have pint glasses in my freezer at all times which make having even a bottled beer a treat.


Feet up, Brewers on. :)

Made myself a mint julep for the Derby (Maker's, btw). Gonna roll with Third Shift Amber beer tonight. It's not an outstanding beer, it's not a bad beer, it's just a beer when you want to have a beer, and that will be just fine.

Moved on to a margs on the rocks with Camarena silver and Patron Citronge.

It's really nice to be able to walk up to my bar and make almost anything I might want. Of course I go with the ever so obvious marg, but that's what I had a taste for. :o


Bought the Cuervo zero calorie marg mix and I can't tell any difference which is nice coz it eliminates 110 calories from each margarita.

I have to say, I love Southern Comfort's new commercials.

I'll never, EVER... drink it again, but the TV spots are entertaining.

I like the Woodford Reserve commercials about women drinking bourbon. I find myself nodding my head in agreement. :)

No adult beverages for me this weekend. Just 2 hydrocodone every 4-6 hours.

Discovered Dragon's Milk Reserve yesterday. Bought a cpuple bottles. It says it is Dragon's Milk brewed with roasted chiles.

Also picked up a 4 pack of Rubeaus.

From a smell and slight taste last night, that it starts with sugar cane is where similarities end. Very earthy taste and not sweet at all. Not a bad taste though - just very different from anything I've had before.

The national drink of Brazil - name escapes me - is this liquor, a crushed lime and some sugar served with ice. Supposed to be really good. Will try it tonight with my fish tacos.

The caipirinha is definitely a nice hot weather drink. I have a bottle of Agua Luca cachaca, which works well in a caipirinha and also has a really neat bottle design that would probably work well with that new bar you're building.
