Abrasive, Darkness, Wet, and Furious are the big 4. Too bad they weren't around to drown my sorrows when I was out there in 2002!

Abrasive and Furious are readily available, from what I've seen. They came out with Blakkr recently, and that got good reviews (Black IPA, IIRC). A little pricey, about $15-17 for a tallboy 4-pack.

Most of the good tallboy 4 packs on the east coast are in that range including Heady which i'm drinking now. Although Bissell Brothers which is a Maine company recently released a 4 pack of a very good pale ale at $12 that has driven down some of the local pricing.

Overrated is the most recent Surly I've gotten in to. Had one tonight, along with a Fulton Sweet Child of Vine, and quite a few Premiums. :D

Actually the guy I traded with said he paid $8.99 a piece for the BCBCS which is insane! I can still buy BCBS around here for $17 a 4 pack, but I'm glad I got to try BCBCS and I still have two left although I'm willing to trade for some Surly. :D

If you lived anywhere in a state touching Minnesota, I'd say buy the lot out and I'd drive to you to get it.

Overrated is one of like two IPAs I can drink and the only one I actually like and will buy on my own.

I've got a case in my cellar and more locally available, but I'm about 1600 miles in drive time.

Saturday I was at a friend's birthday party at Triumph Brewing Company down in Princeton. They have seven of their own beers on tap, and that seemed like a reasonable quantity for me to drink my way down the list. Their Amber Ale is quite good, and their Holy Smoke was a different animal from other smoked beers I've had; much more reminiscent of campfire than smoked ham like so many smoked beers seem to be. After the party we went down the street to another bar and I topped it off with a Leinie's Summer Shandy.

Let the record show that I cannot drink the way I used to. Let the record also show that a sandwith with chicken fingers, fries and mozzarella sticks, as served at Hoagie Haven in Princeton, is really freaking good when you're drunk.

Enjoying a growler of Sweet Mullets Brewing Dark Matter Stout, out of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Picked it up Saturday after doing a sampler flight at the taproom. Really **** tasty stout. Some others they had that I liked were their Black IPA and their sour beer. Also, they had 2 odd brews, one was a jalapeno flavored beer, and the other pumpkin. I usually hate pumpkin beers, but it was part of the flight, so I tried it, and it was easily the tastiest pumpkin beer I've had, so good that I considered getting a growler of it. The jalapeno beer was also very good, just a little heat, and some very prominent pepper flavors, if you like peppers, you'll love this beer.

Also picked up a 4-pack of New Glarus Dubbel, from their Thumbprint line. Another excellent beer from New Glarus's Thumbprint. Tried a blueberry ale at Delafield Brewhaus, and it tasted like eating a blueberry muffin. It was very good for a pint, and after that got a little sickening. Luckily we had several people drinking that growler.

bbdl, dx, and MNS will back me up on this, but my store now has 45th Parallel Border Bourbon. It's a very tasty beverage. It's a bit pricey, due to how small the distillery is/how little they actually make, but it's worth it. If you find it, it'll probably be around $45-50/bottle.

Edit: BTW, it's made in WI. Not kidding.

Yeah, that is good stuff. Nice people out there running the place, too.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

I purchased my first bottle of Minnesota 14. Minnesota 14 is a whiskey produced by Panther Distillery of Osakis, MN and is made of all locally grown products. They released their first small batch a few months ago and they have thousands of barrels that will be released over the years in addition to distilling and barreling stuff every month. I have toured their facility and these guys have big time aspirations.

I am by no means a connoisseur of any sorts..........on the rocks it has a definite hot bite to it with a distinct corn after taste similar to Makers 46. I mixed with coke (because that's how I roll) and I thought it was very similar to that of Crown. Definitely something I would drink again.

You might like Border from New Richmond then. It has that same bite. Same thing with Blantons. (IMHO)

Excellent. Support your local business. :)

That's the other thing I like about New Richmond. Everything comes from local sources. I thought I remember the guy saying that they source their grains from just down the road.

From the website of Panther Distillery:

With hand-selected Minnesota-grown ingredients, American white oak barrels, and our 500-gallon Kentucky-built still, we’re right where we need to be to make the best tasting distilled spirits.

Our Ingredients

A great whiskey starts with great ingredients. And fresh ingredients are always the best. Thankfully, we don’t have to look far to find fresh, locally grown yellow corn, red wheat, and red rye that we use in our mash. It’s so local, we can see where it’s grown from our distillery. It doesn't get more fresh than that.

Correct. Although the FDA may make that more difficult, if the new rulings go into effect.

Tried Ommegang's Wild at Heart, and thought it was only ok. Didn't have as much flavors as I expected. We're a bit disappointed in it.

Correct. Although the FDA may make that more difficult, if the new rulings go into effect.

Update: FDA reportedly not pursuing changes on the feed/whatever practices. They did something...that makes sense. Amazing.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

Tonight's offerings:

Founder's Centennial IPA- not as good as their Dirty Bastard, but as an IPA, I'll take it.
Great Lakes Brewing Dortmunder Gold- A nice, smooth, golden lager. I'll take it.
Guinness- an old standby. I'll take it.
