Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

What's your favorite crappy beer? (Definition: any beer that you can reliably find a 6-pack for $6 or less)

At this point, I'm leaning towards Schlitz.

Life is too short and mornings are already hard enough. :p

For a while, my men's hockey group took turns trying to dig up the best worst beer they could find and they'd bring a case for consuming after playing.

Wish I could remember them all but I believe Black Label, Schlitz, Grain Belt (?), PBR and Hamm's were amongst the offerings.

Woohoo... Crappy beer!

Premo, or if you want to go cheaper, then Mich Golden

If it were more readily available around Green Bay, I'd probably buy Grain Belt Premium more often. Last I saw, it was probably around $5.50 for a 6er (roughly the same price as Schlitz). Leinie's O is cheaper and not horrible, but I've been drinking Leinie's less and less as the years tick by.

Yeah, I think there's only one.

I also want to get another bottle of Worthy Adversary
Didn't they make a "Take the Black" or something last year?

Yeah, I meant that there is only one out right now. I believe this is the 3rd one that they have made, but I'm sure you can't find the first 2.

I don't know that that's true; beermenus.com shows Take The Black available at a bunch of places in my local area that update their inventory on the site regularly. Iron Throne does seem to be almost unavailable though.

Edit to add: though I'm not sure how regional Ommegang's distribution is, so maybe this isn't the case where you are.

Tangent: why does beermenus.com not have an app? Seems like a no-brainer given the kind of info they provide.

Hmmm, yeah, we only have Fire and Blood around here. Maybe it is a regional thing.

I had an absolutely excellent manhattan last night. Made with Woodford Reserve. Granted, it was a $20 drink at a very nice restaurant. :p

I have my beer list ready for my True Detective/National Championship viewing party on Saturday.

Founders KBS
Bell's Black Note Stout
Surly Darkness
Deschutes/Great Lakes Class of '88 Imperial Smoked Porter
Odell Lugene Chocolate Milk Stout
New Glarus Belgian Red
Probably going to have to stop at Four Firkins to see what they have for Saturday.

EODS - No Edel Pils at either Woodman's or Copps on the west side.

Sometimes they retire brews for a time and then bring them back.

Re: Drinking Thread: Beer, Whiskey, Rum, Vodka, Wine - Raise a Glass, All Are Welcome

Beer I'm bringing with me to the Frozen Four:

Big Alice #73 (barleywine aged in yellow birch)
Brooklyn Wild Streak (Belgian golden ale aged in bourbon barrels and re-fermented with Brettanomyces wild yeast)
Ommegang Three Philosophers (Belgian quadrupel - kriek lambic blend)
Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast (coffee-infused oatmeal stout, because what better to kick off pre-noon drinking than a coffee beer)

I mean, I know it's not THAT much, but I have to pack clothes too. Plus I'm told that there are places in Philadelphia that will sell me more beer.

When did Philly start selling beer?

Stopped by my main local store, and they had about a case of the stuff sitting out; I'm sure they have more in back.

I got 2 bottles of it at Blaine Northgate. They had about 8 bottles left. The first place I tried was sold out.

I also got a bottle of Rogue Voodoo Doughnuts Chocolate Banana Peanut Butter Brown Ale, and it was wonderful. Many flavors going on and what I would call a desert beer. Quite sweet, as you could imagine. Probably wouldn't want more than a glass or 2, but 1 or 2 glasses are mighty tasty.

Also, Brent and MNS, I have many bombers and some 4/6 packs to share, if you're interested on Saturday. Bring something to share/trade and it can be a beer potluck.

That's the plan. Have a 4 of the Left Hand Nitro Russian Imperial Stout, and planning on picking up another sixer or two of some other beer(s). Along with a bomber or two, depending on the outcome of Thu's game.

Hit the Bushmills during the Hawks game tonight. Prepping for the grind that is the playoffs where there can be games every other night. I gotta be ready.

Also, working on the wet bar.

Put wood shelves up to measure things out, but the glass shelves are on order (should be here in about a week) and I have to put up the mirrors and the glass tile back splash.

We saved a wall length new construction-type bathroom mirror from when we redid the bathroom. I had it cut for the spaces between the shelf brackets.

Been scheming this for the 3 years since we moved in here. Looking forward to seeing it completed.

Here's what it looks like in the planning stage:

<a href="http://imgur.com/aIl3eel.jpg"><img src="http://i.imgur.com/aIl3eel.jpg?1" title="Hosted by imgur.com" /></a>

Like I said, it will have glass shelves, mirrors in the gaps down to a point, the shelf brackets will be chrome finished and there will be a glass tile backsplash on the lower 5-6 inches.

Oh yeah and the Bucky magnet got moved around to the front of the fridge to class up the area. :p

Come over and help and I'll get ya drunk. ;):D

JFC!

One good thing about getting hitched: unfinished basement. There will be a bedroom down there, but the rest is already designated "mancave" within reason. I hope to have a wetbar down there.
