This was long overdue. The statistics are very clear that it's in the public interest despite a few rare complications. I'll take that over hundreds of treatment-resistant measles (or other bacteria/virus-induced diseases) cases anytime.

The comms error noted in the article has now been diagnosed and there should be no significant mission impact.

Somewhere buried in the article is a link to a livestream of the deep space satellite communication data, which would be fascinating if it had a goldurned legend attached.

Anyway, we're just 8 days from a significant landmark in solar system exploration, so while crawling on the planet's face, some insects called the human race continue to kill one another over collective hallucinations like currencies and deities, capital H Humanity is doing something worthwhile this week. Yay, team!

I predict that seeing good pictures of the final planet (yes, fcuk you NdGT) will induce goosebumps. It's really an incredible achievement.

I guess there isn't a whole lot to decipher though. All it seems to be is a list of satellite sites in the DSN and which spacecraft they are communicating with. Or am I missing something here?

I'm not looking at it right now, but at first glance I thought there were signal characteristics and a symbology that looked like it would be interesting, but no place where they were defined or explained.
