Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

Re: Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

This is maybe the most impressive thing I heard today (even over Colgate beating #2 ranked Clarkson)!! Kudos to Ohio State. This could have major (future) implications for their program!!!

Are you saying this could be like the Kevin Roy deal? His brother is Derek, they play for Northeastern. Kevin was highly rated recruit who was only a package deal with his goalie brother.

Re: Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

As noted, lots of politics and the best 22 players don't get picked. I would observe that the top 13-15 skaters are pretty much always the most talented and that after that the reaminder are political picks suited to a coach's agenda (example - youngest Laing will be a significant recruit for '14-'15 and the Princeton coach is probably trying to get her to follow her sister to Princeton by putting her on the U18 team he is coaching).

I agree with HockeyEast33. The best team is not really a consideration here. It is about a free trip to the Artic Circle in the dead of winter to reward or entice specific recruits. Fall evaluations? I think not.... Looks like the University of MN gives out free trips to Finland for anyone committed to their program or whom they are actively pursuing. I wonder how USA Hockey likes paying for their recruiting tab? Watch this fresh batch and see how many sign with U of MN. Looks like two of the new ones have already.

Actually it's a line item on my booster club membership, so you can stop worrying about it.

You see, that goes to show that you missed the point entirely. The problem is not "who" pays for it, the problem is that USA Hockey seem to be letting certain colleges control the roster of the team instead of putting the best team forward that it can. I really don't care who "pays" for the boondoggle to Finland. What I really care about is USA Hockey putting the best players it can on the ice.

Okay, I'll ask, whose daughter didn't make the team...yours or your daughter's teammate?

I agree, it's hard to understand how a highly ranked and undefeated team might have some recruits on this team. Makes no sense.

I couldn't disagree more. We paid for this fair and square. If you want a place at the trough, pony up. Corruption ain't cheap, pal.
