Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

Re: Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

I know these are just verbals at this point, but have these kids even taken the ACT's yet? Wouldn't taking those be a prerequisite to getting a verbal? Ususally those aren't taken until junior year.

Re: Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

Obviously anything at this point is conditional on being able to gain admission no matter what school you plan on attending or what entrance exams you have or have not taken. A kid can be a 4.0 whiz kid and ace her exams, but if for some reason she doesn't finish her work her senior year and doesn't graduate, then she can't enter college and the deal is off.

University of Wisconsin

Baylee Wellhausen.................F..........(Shattuck St. Marys)............Williams Bay, WI.

Just saw on USA Hockey.com website that Baylee was named to the USA U-18 team and will be competing in Finland in the under 18 World Tournament at the end of December. Had the oppurtunity to see her play at Shattuck St. Marys earlier this season. Great skater who sees the ice extremely well and can score. Will be a very good addition to the US team!

No doubt - great all around player. Well deserved. Willard is another great addition on D. Congrats!

How does USA Hockey pick this team? Willard could be deserving of the spot but my reason for asking is that she was not at Festival in August. Actually 4 players named to the current U18 were not there, Willard, Laing, Kent, Wellhausen.

USA Hockey did not ask 5 players back from the 2012 Series vs Canada in August (Padalis, Samoskevich, McKenna, Vetter, Williamson)

I do like to see programs recruit and give opportunities to kids from the neighborhood, so to speak.

USA Hockey continues to evaluate throughout the fall. Some of the additions were invited to the per Four Nations camp in NY for further evaluation.

And Andie Anastos didn't get called back either. It does seem to mean that those who did get invited that went to the Four Nations per camp come from Harvards favorite pipeline Assabet and oh wait isn't the coach from Harvard? Funny how that works! I agree with a previous writer when he said that college coaches shouldn't be involved in the recruiting process for these things or shouldn't coach at that level...too much biases.]

Actually, the coach is from Princeton. Every year the roster has changed from the summer series lineup to the final roster. Some players don't cut it during the NWF/summer series, some get injured or play poorly during the fall, or others just turn it on during the fall and gain the attention of the NWP scouts and coaches.

No actually the Princeton coach is coaching the pipeline (U18) for the Four Nations and Olympics and that coach is from Harvard. That's what I meant

Who was looking at these players & where? I find this process not above the table. Laing's sister plays for Princeton and her other sister is going to Harvard. Something doesn't seem right. Very peculiar.

Is the current process fair?

If you were picked to go to festival, I very much doubt that your play in the fall kept you off the team. Very rarely does a girl's play drop off like that. Perhaps it has to do with the player being picked to go to Festival in the first place, the politics of it all. In years past, this sort of roster addition and deletion has not been like this. I think this is turning players off to USA Hockey.

Re: Division 1 Commitments 2014-15

The selection of both the coaches and the players is highly politicized. You can go far in USA Hockey if you are good at politics.

I guess that is fine if they had won an Olympic Gold medal recently. Hey, life is not fair! I'm sure Canada has politics too, BUT they have the Olympic Gold Medals. Hopefully we are not happy with 2nd place in a 2 horse race.

Happy Thanksgiving!!! Be grateful for what you have :)
