Div III Final Four - Come get me NCAA...

Re: Div III Final Four - Come get me NCAA...

The high stick on N. Flood from St. Thomas hit the Platty kid square on top of the head.

Re: Div III Final Four - Come get me NCAA...

Definitely a bit surprised at the penalty calls in the third and OT considering it seemed like they put the whistles away in the second.... St. Thomas played a physical game and Plattsburgh was a bit sloppy.... usually if a team takes 64 shots they win the game way before overtime but the St. Thomas goalie was amazing.

3-0 Norwich

4-0 Norwich 2 min left in the second

4-1 Norwich 1 min left in second

4-2 Norwich 4:00 left

And 4-2 Norwich is the FINAL

On the bright side...a west team will win a game at the frozen four this year :)

That was a given going into the F4 (That a West team would win at least one game was a mathematical certainty).

I think they should have given the west the same shot in the D3 frozen four that they gave the east in the D1. Pit the east teams against eachother and the west teams against eachother in the semi's, so a west team has a chance in the title game

Actually the game could end in a tie and be decided by SO.

There is still a winner. Pretty sure that unlike the regular season, this cannot be recorded as a tie.

The match-ups and brackets are based on seeding in D1. It just so happens that seeds 1 and 4 were from the west, seeds 2 and 3 from the east. Seeds 5 to 8 were all from the east. Does not work out that way all years in D1 either.

3 penalties in Overtime on 1 team seriously?! Seems like a Homer Job to me :(

Plattsburgh might want to make the net they shot on today a soccer net.

Ron Jacobs seems to be out of the Pittsburgh (not Plattsburgh) area. I do not think I ever saw Tai Thorsim in these parts either. While it was too bad the deciding goal was on the 3rd St Thomas penalty of the OT (and I really did not see a penalty, as the play was on the boards, right below where I stood, above the Tommie bench), I think it a stretch to say these were Homer Officials.

If the two best teams are from one region, why would you want them paired against each other in the semis? This is about trying to have the top teams face eachother in the finals, and that is what you got, they just happen to be from the east. Look at the mens side and it worked out for the west, the top two teams in the country meet in the finals, this year from the west (Point and Norberts). Let's not try and produce what might be a clash east vs west, just make it the top teams, regardless of location.

Re: Div III Final Four - Come get me NCAA...

I did not watch the River Falls vs. Norwich game, but did see the shots and noticed that Norwich only mustered 9 shots each period, but obviously managed the win. I'm just wondering why this hasn't been a topic, because if it had been the other way around and St. Thomas got outshot, but won, there would be cry that the "better team" didn't win. Was River Falls the better team here, but just couldn't finish? As I said, I didn't catch the game, but would love some insight as to whether RF dominated, but Norwich capitalized better.

Getting outshot 36-27 and getting outshot 64-30 are not at all the same.

Completely agree, but when you're short handed for almost an entire period worth of time, you'd expect that. I'm not saying Platty wasn't the better team, either. Again, all I'm asking is if the RF game was lopsided.

Re: Div III Final Four - Come get me NCAA...

My honest belief is that UST had to play aggressive to stay in the game. They got caught doing so and by the overtime were very tired and the penalties became more obvious. Plattsburgh has been one of the lowest penalized teams all year because they usually are able to score against most goalies they face and the defense can play their regular game. The depth also plays a role late in a game.
