I smell something funny...

Hop on over to the UW-Stout thread and you'll see a rash of new aliases. It's easy to pad your player with that many fakes. 2 goals and an assist in 2 games against the last place team in your conference really deserves player of the week honors.

I propose we ban Stout players from the POTW voting unless they are nominated by someone who doesn't cream themselves over the mediocre Blue Devils

I see Oswego is into censorship?

We have seven DA's on USCHO including myself. Nine votes doesn't seem outrageous, especially when a DA message went out last night encouraging those registered on the site to vote for Hanson in his effort against UW-Superior.

I guess we need more spy photos from our pond hockey practices to prove flesh and blood behind each 'alisas'.

I didn't think this would turn into a campaigning event for these polls. I hate politics!

If we look at the Stout hockey team's body of work this year, this player's performance was indeed noteworthy - let them eat cake.

Re: DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 1/11-1/17

My vote has to go to Klinger, not because I am a Norwich fan, but because Norwich is the only undefeated team in Div III and Klinger picked up his 4th shutout this weekend. (Honorable mention to Dubois who also has a shut out to make it 5 SO's for Wick). On top of that, Klinger only let 2 in against NEC on Friday night. His shut out Sat. night, put him on top of the Div III goalie stats for shut outs, and he has only allowed 14 goals in 13 games with a GAA of 1.08. He is listed #1 goalie in DIV III nationally. No doubt Klinger would say that his defensive team mates have greatly assisted him to these stats. Others would say you can't win a game unless the you score goals. I say you can't win a season if you don't have a consistent goalie who shuts the door on the opponents. We don't need alias voters to help Klinger win this poll, the stats speak for themselves. Good job Klinger:cool:

This is a poll for Player of the Week, not player of the season...

That being said, I think Klinger deserves some consideration this week. Certainly more than Hanson.

I know that,;) just trying to set the scene for just how impressive another shut out and only allowing 2 goals this past weekend was. Wouldn't be quite as impressive with out the "whole picture". No offense intended. Also hoping to stimulate some voters to get on board!

Re: DIII Posters' POTW for the week of 1/11-1/17

This kind of reminds me of the time when Rick Clever beat Mark Carragher for ECAC player of the year even though Carragher had the better season without a doubt...I should have know that nobody would vote for a USM player...I mean the goalie that everybody was prasing didn't even win ECAC EAST goalie of the week...It's a shame...

Maybe Klinger will have a good shot at winning the Player of the Year:confused:

He's certainly been very consistent so far this year and has been nominated for this award three or four times now?

Not a doubt in my mind he could be up for player of the year: the numbers are amazing...But did he really have that great a WEEK, I mean he only faced 30 shots...Not a shot a Klinger at all: just some residual anger at the politics in the voting...I believe: if I look at the stats that Zach Joy in tied for 2nd in the nation in goals per game: not bad either...

Guys, my apologies for stirring things up and provoking anger. It was not my intention, nor did I intend to infer that Klinger deserves player of the year. He faced a total of 52 shots over the weekend according to the USCHO scoreboard, a good show but not the most amazing thing we've seen in the past. The fact remains, he has been nominated at least 2-3 times and hasn't gotten it, and I felt his showing this week does deserve recognition. When I read the posts stating concern over alibis and a large number of votes for one player so quickly, I guess I over-reacted on behalf of Klinger (even if everything I said was factual), to try and get more people to vote. I do not regret my post, but do regret offending anyone if I did. I follow and post on this site because it is fun and there are many excellent teams and players out there who don't get enough recognition (and I am not saying Klinger is one of them). I'll try to be a little more reserved with my enthusiasm in the future. Good night and have "fun".:o :D

You didn't really stir anything new: if I had two votes my 2nd would go to Klinger: and I agree that there are a lot of good players that don't get the recognition they deserve: I guess that is all I am trying to get at: not a big fan of ballot stuffing that other people did...I guess I still can't get the Clever over Carragher thing out of my mind....:)

Kevin Willer seems to have caught up rather quickly... perhaps the Elmira fans are campaigning now? or perhaps the anti-Hansonists have seen that Willer was the closest, and simply elected to bring him closer.

I'm going to be honest guys, I expected something like this to come up quite some time ago, and I'm surprised that it didn't happen sooner. There was never any rule prevent campaigns for specific players, and there was even a precedent for campaigning (should you choose to consider Prez's and my comments about Musselwhite a while back to be campaigning, albeit negative campaigning). There will not be such a rule, as it would be IMPOSSIBLE to police.

As for for the DA and allegations of aliasing... innocent until proven guilty. If you legitimately believe that it is one person acting as many, then by all means bring it to the attention of the Forum Admin. If they find it enough to cancel accounts, so be it. If they don't find that there is evidence to suggest it, then so be it as well.

On a positive note...

I think this is the most number of votes for POTW so far.

The reality was that last weekend was a pretty average week for Klinger. 1 goal per game is what he gives up. What impress me are his positioning and mechanics - he's always in the right spot. He rarely has to make spectacular saves because he is rarely out of position.
