DIII game notes

LOL, you beat me to it. I was going to say, but nobody's "upset" about it but the GAC folks.

Probably not. But anytime Gustavus loses makes me smile. I'm hoping Augsburg breaks through to win the MIAC since it would be new blood in the NCAAs even though it would probably be a short trip. And the vegas odds on Augsburg winning the MIAC had to be about 12,000 to 1. :)

I was also trying to turn this thread back into a discussion of hockey instead of Crosscheck's inability to understand basic college funding.

Good luck with that.

Re: DIII game notes

First period between Plattsburgh and Utica scoreless. Utica physical early and the two penalties didn't cost them. Plattsburgh trying to hit back. Both goalies very sharp early on and Plattsburgh skaters showing their tenacious blocking and forechecking abilities early.

Re: DIII game notes

1-0 Plattsburgh early in the 2nd. Millen backhands a rebounding puck off the skate of the Utica goalie Goin at the post and it goes in.

EDIT: 6:26 left in the 2nd a feed from the boards to Sheeran in the slot makes it 2-0 on a shot over Goin's shoulder. Utica however responds on the next shift and makes it 2-1. Utica now possessing in their end with some shots.

EDIT 2: On a power play, Erin Brand pinches forward to the circle, receives a pass from Sheeran and fires it into the net. 3-1 Plattsburgh with 2:15 left in the second.

EDIT 3: On another Power Play, Brand takes the puck into the circle herself and chips it over the goalie into the net for a 4-1 lead with a minute left in the 2nd.

EDIT 4: Plattsburgh turns a Utica bone-headed cross-check in front of Plattsburgh's net into a power play goal for Sheeran. 5-1 Plattsburgh with 9:50 left. And Utica just took another penalty.

A couple of real nail biters today for Plattsburgh and Elmira as they both shockingly move on to face each other yet again in the final ECAC West championship of the current era of the ECAC West. Who could have seen this coming?!

To have Hamline and Gustavus both go out makes nobody sad except those teams. The two least-liked coaches in MIAC. And I'm with gojackets, let's go Augsburg. St. Thomas is absolutely on fire, though.

Wow, that's quite a statement. Not about the GAC coach because he's been hated for years for his arrogance, his recruiting tactics, and his over recruiting in general, but this is the first I've heard such a strong statement against ND at Hamline. Are you sure it's not her daddy that everyone hates?! That wouldn't be a suprise. Lol. Seriously though, why is she so disliked?

What's the story about her dad?

Watched St Thomas beat Hamline Friday night as we were in town to watch my daughter and the Cobber's play Augsburg Saturday. St Thomas dominated that game and they are playing their best hockey at the right time. If I was a betting man I'd put it all on St Thomas beating Augsburg. They are rolling. As far as my daughter and the Cobber's go it was a game that could of went either way. 2 evenly matched teams. Tough to see it end for the 7 seniors including my daughter. Those 4 years flew by.

Post-game handshakes are never good places to ridicule a team you just beat, especially not when you get personal. And complaining about every call that goes against you loudly enough to have the whole arena hear you is not a good look. For as good a player as she was, those qualities aren't translating. Maybe it's just inexperience.

Not related to hockey, but this reminds me of when I was working as an official scorer of Plattsburgh's women's volleyball Cardinal Classic where after being upset by a "lesser" program, the head coach of Baruch College (NYC) stormed out of the gym screaming how upstate schools knew nothing about volleyball. And for all of the losses I'd witnessed in my time working with Cardinal Volleyball, Coach O'Connell never embarrassed herself like that...

Some would say that's just her being very competitive, like she was as a player. Was this just in the loss against St. Thomas or has this been a pattern since she started coaching even in the high school league? Her dad was a loudmouth behind the bench as well so her coaching model wasn't a great one. Saying she is one of the least liked coaches in the MIAC would suggest this is a continued pattern of behavior. It kind of reminds me of a certain former coach in Duluth! Do you have other examples of your statement? Do her players also dislike her? Sometimes players become embarrassed by their coaches because of their behavior on the bench and that leads to them disliking their coaches too. It's not a healthy thing for a team.

Man, if you'd told me at the beginning of the year that Neumann and William Smith would each land a player in the 1st All-Conference Team and Elmira would have 0.,,

And if you'd told me Evangelous wouldn't even get Honorable Mention...

Re: DIII game notes

Leonard making all conference 2nd team is surprising to me given she had a .946 save % and 6 SO. Maggie Salmon MUST have had a helluva season.

Salmon had a 1.91 goals against average. and led the league with a .952 save percent I think you also consider she gave up only 26 goals on 550 shots and put up comparable numbers to Leonard with nowhere near as good of a defense in front of her. In the 1 game she held plattsburgh to 2 goals on 54 shots.

That being said it is surprising that the record holder doesn't make 1st team.

Re: DIII game notes

Endicott beat Stevenson 4-2 to advance :P

Endicott's my new favorite team for the next week or so.

Adrian is up 2-0 on Lake Forest midway through the 1st.

Middlebury 2 Bowdoin 1 after the 2nd.
