DIII game notes

Tied 2-2....GOALTENDING...for Plattsburgh needs work (although one Spartan goal was on a breakaway)....only 3 Castelton shots. Now 3-2 Plattsburgh and video lost again !

Plattsburgh has the backup goalie in tonight. And in her defense, from my perspective here at the rink, I counted 6sog, not 3. One CST goal was a breakaway where she was left hanging out to dry, and the other was bouncing puck in a scramble in the crease with about 3 players screening her from seeing the puck. Still not great, but not as bad as it looks.

EDIT: Leonard in net for Plattsburgh for the 2nd.

Sounds like more sloppy defensive play by Plattsburgh. I hope they'll get a bit of a lead and put the other goalie back in net at least for the 3rd period if not sooner. Tough to be taken out when it's clearly not your fault. A wakeup call is in order for Plattsburgh defensively given this early season trend.

Edit: Now 5-2 for Plattsburgh with shots in their favor 24-4. Time to put the other goalie back in. To not put her back in would be a coaching mistake in my opinion. Pulling her with a 3-2 lead after one period was probably premature to begin with.

Now 6-2......We don't know the reason for the Goalie change.....could be a good reason.

Looks like they woke up ! Now 7-2 Plattsburgh on a PPG.

this Weekend's games should be interesting...is this just a "blip" or does Platty really have some weakness that will be exposed when they finally face a good team?

They have had a pretty soft schedule with only Norwich being a team with a reputation for being challenging to a team like Plattsburgh. This weekend should be interesting. Don't eat too much turkey Cardinals!

It must be hard for a team like Plattsburgh to stay focused on every game when only a handful of games each year are really any type of challenge to them. Look at their schedule. Norwich, Adrian, Middlebury, and Elmira are the only teams that should give them any type of challenge unless they lose focus as they have in a few games already this year which is unusual for them. I wonder if it ever gets boring basically going through the motions every year until the playoffs come around. Maybe this year might be a bit different.

Coach Houle gets only 6 non-conference games and he goes with Castleton, Adrian, winner/loser of Utica/Middlebury, Arian again, winner/loser of Elmira/Norwich and Middlebury and you seem to feel he has a soft schedule???

"They have had..." where didnhe say they play an overall soft schedule? How can you dispute William and Smith, Neumann as anything but soft? Oswego, while a win is a win, was not stiff competition. Castleton hasn't really showed much either. This isn't Adrian, Middlebury, Elmira, Norwich ect ect was his point. If they were allowing these mistakes against those teams, you could chalk it up to the level of competition, but they haven't been. Losing to teams and or allowing teams to stay in the game that they simply should not be,is not good.

The simple point is, Plattsburgh has struggled (for their level of expectations) against a mediocre/soft schedule. One has to wonder what will happen when they're playing a real schedule....

Re: DIII game notes

Predictions on the Cardinal/Panther Classic at middlebury?
1. Utica v Middlebury
2. Adrian v Plattsburgh

Secondary matchup outcomes as well?

Will be an interesting event seeing all teams on the big sheet of Middlebury and if that becomes a factor at all

Utica v Middlebury
I expected Utica to make some serious noise this season, but their opening weekend sweep by Buffalo leads me to question that. Middlebury is still Middlebury, but they needed OT twice at Trinity last weekend. I think they need OT again today. Middlebury 3-2 in OT

Plattsburgh v Adrian
Plattsburgh has struggled so far this season with. Some silly defensive lapses, but a nearly uncrackable defense in the other 95% if the game. But I think they showed against Norwich that they can keep that focus for 60 minutes. Adrian is good and can capitalize on mistakes, but the only team that is going to be Plattsburgh is Plattsburgh Plattsburgh 3-1

Plattsburgh v Middlebury
Basically the same analysis as the Adrian game above, except with Middlebury. Plattsburgh 4-1

Utica v Adrian
Unless the Pioneers wake up this weekend, Adrian takes this pretty handily. Adrian 4-0

Good morning! Burgh, what is in your coffee? Platty is getting to much love on here. It's pretty much all we talk about. Anyways...

Saturday: Utica over Midd & Adrain over Platty
Sunday: Platty over Midd & Utica- Adrian will be close, flip a coin.

Actually, you know who receives to much love? Norwich.

I agree with the Middlebury Utica results. Toss up with Plattsburgh and Adrian just based on numbers. No doubt Plattsburgh has the experience to beat Adrian, but statistically they fall below Adrian in every category except for PK. If Plattsburgh can hold them off 5v5 then I think it'll go to the Cards. But if Adrian's goal scoring ability stays high like it has been in past games, then it could be a tough day for Plattsburgh.
Comes down to the team that's better today off paper though, statistics are only good for looking in the past at a team, not the present and certainly not the future! That's why we love hockey, should be a great show!

Midd beats Utica 4-1
Adrian beats Platty 3-2OT

Midd over Adrian 3-1 in the final
Patty over Utica 5-1 in consolation

Re: DIII game notes

I don't care about the scores, but here's my prediction:

Utica will go winless this weekend and won't be invited back next year.

Adrian will blow a chance to beat Plattsburgh today because of too many untimely penalties due to their traditional undisciplined style of play...coaching advantage easily goes to Plattsburgh in this one. Adrian will have to take out their frustrations by beating Utica tomorrow.

Middlebury will win twice...home ice advantage.

Re: DIII game notes

Sheeran with her 100th career point to open it 1-0 on Adrian early around 2:30 in the first.

Re: DIII game notes

2-0 Plattsburgh, Songin scores on a rebound.

Edit 1: 3-0 Plattsburgh, Moriarty with a backhand in traffic. Adrian pulls the goalie. 1:30 or so left in the first.

Edit 2: End of the 1st. Plattsburgh looking good. Killing off a 5-3 with no goals allowed and scoring 3 goals on Adrian.
