DIII Coaching Changes

Apparently Kasi Peterson is not staying on board at St. Mary's either, although I agree with you, Scott, that she would have been a good choice for the interim. Trying to fill a head and assistant coach in mid September seems like a tall task at this point. I'm curious what Olivia Spellmire -who was the assistant at St. Olaf last year - is doing. The Oles are coming off their best record in many years and she had a great playing career at Lake Forest and had coaching stops at Brown and Maine. She might be a good candidate for the Cardinals job. Another job that is open is the assistant at Augsburg. Their long-time assistant, Ashley Holmes, just recently left to take the Hockey Operations job at the Univ of Minnesota.

Maybe Chad Davis is heading to Winona, MN. Just a thought...
Turns out you were right as Chad has been announced as the new head coach at St. Mary's

Potsdam has named Tyren Boots as their new assistant. Boots is a 2022 grad of Marian who played for their AHCA hockey team and their varsity lacrosse team.

Yikes...Sakem State publicly posted this morning they are in need of an interim head coach...anyone know the story here?

No release about their aborted first season but MSOE has posted for a replacement for Chad Davis, so I guess women's hockey at MSOE isn't completely dead...

No press release but Hamilton updated their Staff Directory to reflect that Kayte Holtz, their assistant the last 8 seasons, is now the Head Coach.

Holtz is a 2013 graduate of NESCAC rival Bowdoin and was a 3-time All-NESCAC player.

The Staff Directory notes the assistant coaching position as vacant to it looks like Chris Cobb, the other assistant coach, did not stay on.

I believe this leaves Salem State as the only team playing this year without a head coach as of now. MSOE is also without a coach but their launch was aborted.

Keene State announces that Rob Morgan will be their inaugural Head Coach when they launch in Fall 2024.

Morgan has head coaching experience at D1 as the inaugural head coach at LIU and at DIII as the inaugural head coach at SNC. As an assistant Morgan was an Associate Head Coach at Yale and an Assistant Coach at Dartmouth.

This is a fantastic hire for Keene State. They are very lucky to have him. He will do great things with this program!

This guy talked to me at a recruiting event when he was with Dartmouth and I found him to be quite unimpressive, but mostly he seemed very weird, socially awkward, and creepy to be honest. Why was he let go at LIU?! I think his players felt the same way I did about him. Players were transferring out of there for a reason, and then he was let go.

I have know Coach Morgan since 2010 when he started the Women's program at SNC and have the complete opposite impression. He has been successful at every position he has had and will be a great addition the KSC from my experience and in my opinion.

You're obviously a guy. You don't sense what we sense when a guy talks to you. He lasted only 3 seasons at LIU and then boom, out the door. That doesn't happen without a reason. And the team was successful in their league but players were transferring out in high numbers. That also doesn't happen without a reason. Read the situation. It's very clear. He's Keene's problem now. Recruits beware.

Shelfit, you definitely are off base here. I am a parent (my pronouns are she, her) and I know many of his former players and parents - I have never heard such comments. As “4 and 20” stated, I too have nothing but great things to say and positive interactions. There have been upset parents when their daughter barely played or disagreed with disciplinary matters. As far as the LIU transfer portable, you might want to dig a little deeper to find the truth.

Keene State is very fortunate to have landed Coach Morgan… congratulations!!

My experience with him was creepy and I wasn't the only one. That's not off base. That was a long time ago. Glad he has apparently changed since then. Perhaps he learned and grew as a person.

Salem State has hired Ray Kizzie, an assistant coach for Team Maryland of the EHL. As a player, Kizzie scored 79 points in 91 games for ACHA Division II Dallas Baptist University. This appears to be his first foray into coaching girl's/women's hockey.

Baylee Wellhausen Named Women's Hockey Head Coach

https://msoeraiders.com/news/2023/10...ead-coach.aspx

Am I missing something, or does this article indicate that she has never coached anything at any level ever before?! The article only says that she has done color commentary for streaming games, but it never says a word about any coaching experience. Is that correct? Did they get no applicants that had any women's hockey coaching experience?! This just seems strange.

How many coaches would be available at this time of the year? Very tough to come in to a coaching situation when the season's already here. And who's to say she won't be a great coach? She's had great playing experience and that comes with exposure to high level coaching. If she's smart and talented she can use that experience behind the bench. I wish her all the best.
