Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

I find these fad diets are rarely sound nutritional advice. Ever.

What bothers me about fad diets isn't so much the diet itself, it's those followers of said diet that need to point at you and give you a tongue lashing for not eating like them. I have a friend who's a vegan. But she's not content to tell me why being a vegan works for her, she feels the need to post "meat is murder" memes to Facebook daily.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

I'd unfriend her on Facebook. Or at least block her from my feed. I'd probably explain why though.

Edit: and for the record, being a vegan isn't a diet, it's a morality thing. A morality choice that probably belongs in the DSM under symptoms of psychotic masochism.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

You could really set her off by asking her, "If God didn't want us to eat animals, why did he make them out of meat?"

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

Or this:

“Vegetarians, and their Hezbollah-like splinter-faction, the vegans, are a persistent irritant to any chef worth a ****.

To me, life without veal stock, pork fat, sausage, organ meat, demi-glace, or even stinky cheese is a life not worth living.

Vegetarians are the enemy of everything good and decent in the human spirit, an affront to all I stand for, the pure enjoyment of food. The body, these waterheads imagine, is a temple that should not be polluted by animal protein. It's healthier, they insist, though every vegetarian waiter I've worked with is brought down by any rumor of a cold.

Oh, I'll accomodate them, I'll rummage around for something to feed them, for a 'vegetarian plate', if called on to do so. Fourteen dollars for a few slices of grilled eggplant and zucchini suits my food cost fine.”

I have little issue with vegetarianism. It's vegan ism I actually hate.

I'm not a fan of people like her either and I find people of her ilk to be tiresome and do tons more damage to their cause then help. But I find the rest of all of you, and your barbaric meat eating, to be just as pathetic. Especially all this bacon BS that is spewed seemingly everywhere I go. No, I'm not a vegan but a vegetarian.

I've done a good job the last 3 or 4 weeks cutting way down on sugar and processed food. I had a Gatorade today on the golf course (I walk), though I know it's not very healthy stuff. Looked at the sugar disclosure on the container after I got home--34 grams. That's 8 1/2 teaspoons of sugar! Makes me sick thinking about it.

They have lite calorie versions of that stuff, too. Even when I wasn't on a diet, on those rare time I had a Gatorade or Powerade, I'd buy them because the taste of the normal stuff is just too strong during or immediately a workout or hockey game.

A few days beyond four months on my diet today and I'm down 76.3lbs - losing an average of 4.2lbs/week. That average has been coming down, as expected, but it's still quite high for being four months into the diet.

My wife is down to 241. She was 280 at the start of the year, but has lost 22 since April. Wow.

What recommendations do you-all have for sugar substitutes. I know blue agave is popular, but I'm not sure it is much better than sugar, at least as far as calories is concerned. It may be better than sugar, honey, corn syrup etc in the way it messes with the body's ability to know when it is sated, but I don't know. I have no problem staying away from sugar, but I do like a little sweet taste in some things like blended drinks, coffee, etc.

It's debatable whether it's "natural" or not, but when I took my coffee with sweetener, I preferred stevia. Sweetleaf (you can buy it at the health food store) is probably the best brand.

At least stevia never gave me gas.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2014: I Want It Now

My dad sent me a link saying "green coffee burns fat." I replied, sending him a link saying that claim is dubious at best. What's next? Is he going to send me something about raspberry ketones?

Then again, my dad is the type who thinks he can wish himself thin.

You all don't want to see what this woman at the Tigers-Rangers game has consumed in the last 1.5 innings.
