Diet and Exercise 2013: Ready to Suffer and Ready to Hope

MissThundercat

Are the cis okay?
What are your fitness goals for this year? Mine are as follows:

1. Cross-train. Do something else beside run.

2. Get to 190 and park it.

3. Cut back on the bread and cookies. I like making those items, but enough is enough.

4. Not order coffee every time I go out to eat. Switch to water/herbal teas after noon.

A cup of black coffee has all of 5 calories. If you're switching due to the caffeine that's one thing, calories are negligible, though.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2013: Ready to Suffer and Ready to Hope

I'm right where I want to be, weight-wise. Maybe 5 pounds light. It's now a matter of eating (much) better and sculpting what I have now.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2013: Ready to Suffer and Ready to Hope

I can lose about ten pounds, but with diabetes, I have to do a better job of carb control. Tough to do when traveling with the hockey team.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2013: Ready to Suffer and Ready to Hope

Refocusing on eating well and working out on a schedule.

I dropped 20-25 pounds last year when I was doing the above. Once I lost some of my focus, some of it crept back on.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2013: Ready to Suffer and Ready to Hope

Got my first trail race this Saturday, then a 50 miler the following weekend. Recover from that and a 2nd trail race in the beginning of February. Taking some time off and then try not to get lost in the desert like last year in April. And that's my first 1/3 of the year. Might think about another 50 miler or perhaps pushing to 100 if I'm stupid enough later in the year.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2013: Ready to Suffer and Ready to Hope

I could care less what my actual weight is. I'm concerned about body fat % which is too high. Hoping to get it into the teens this year.

Whole30 #3 starting up today. After Christmas, my body is not happy with me.

I have faith in you! I have no doubt you are stupid enough. ;)

Get it done!

Old license picture taken four years ago (about 225) and new license picture taken last month (about 205). Goal going forward is to get it down to 185 for my wedding on June 1st, then back down to there after I inevitably gain some of it back on the honeymoon, and then keep it there for the rest of the year.

Hmm, fitness goals.

1. Run 1000 miles this year.
2. Run a half marathon
3. Run a marathon
4. Get a six-pack
5. Have my torn labrum repaired in my right shoulder. Then rehab the F out of it.
6. Squat 250.
7. A mile time that starts with 5: (aka 5:01-5:59)
8. A 5K time that starts with 20:
9. Finish the 100 push-up challenge. Successfully.

Ran my first competitive 5K since high school and averaged 8:45. Apparently competitiveness makes me disinterested in letting anyone pass me. So I tried to run slow and then said F it. I found out that I have a heart condition called Wolff-Parkinson-White, it makes my heart beat too quickly when I exercise (much higher than it should) and I am finally seeing the electrophysiologist next week and hopefully he'll be able to use a radiography ablation to get rid of the extra hidden accessory pathway that is sending the signals to my heart to beat that fast. (200+ while running at that pace, which is ridiculous as I'm not even winded.)

So where we last? Oh, 2012 was a year of great physical changes. I lost a lot of weight, fell back in love with running and lost about 15 pounds: making my overall weight lost from August 2010 to about 30 pounds. I've gained a good amount of muscle mass to boot and grew a beard for kicks.

Worst part about all this is I have to replace almost all of my clothes, and as America gets fatter I have less options to choose from. Terrible, I know.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2013: Ready to Suffer and Ready to Hope

Heart condition isn't WPW, off for a cat scan to find out if it a benign tumor. (It's not a tumahhhhhh jokes, are welcome.)

If it's not a tumor, I will likely need to have a pacemaker implanted at age 30. Doc says that is something he absolutely wants to do as the last option. Until then I can still run, just very very slowly.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2013: Ready to Suffer and Ready to Hope

First. Good luck, TBA.

Quick question. I am scheduled to have my gallbladder out soon. I want to know how long do I take before I get back into it. I know I got to ease ino it. The whole situation has put a crimp into my weight loss goals. I'll be getting just the laprascopy and I'll only be out of work a couple days since I do a desk job. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2013: Ready to Suffer and Ready to Hope

Found out the fun way to not try and run 50 miles with a serious cold/lung infection. Apparently your sinuses start to bleed and you cough up blood, so I had to pull out after 33 miles. So that kind of stinks, especially since I was around my target pace for the race too.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2013: Ready to Suffer and Ready to Hope

I will throw out a recommendation that's worked for me, for those who simply want to track food and exercise - http://www.myfitnesspal.com - (they also have phone apps). Very handy and easy to use and keep up with. Started last year and lost 40 pounds so far.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2013: Ready to Suffer and Ready to Hope

Want to get back under 180 and stay there. At 5'11", that would be a great weight for me. Currently around 190.

I also want to do more cross-training beyond the hockey that I play and biking.

I downloaded the p90x program, but knowing me...

Agreed. I use this app. I have tried others but I like this one the best.

I use it too; the only inconvenience for me is having to input my own recipes. I already have two pages of recipes...

And I decided I'm not going to race this year. I tried to race last year while losing weight and it only led to a DNF in the Twin Cities marathon.
