Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

I think Frazee played the part of the opposing goalie in Youngblood. I could be wrong though. :)

You sure it wasn't Sievbeda? Looks more like him to me.

Whatever you do, don't get the Canadian flag tape. People will think you are SiouxTechie. ;)

All the flag tapes I've seen are flimsy and don't last past one session. Go with old school black.

Remember how good Siembida was at first? I believe his WCHA debut was during the UMN series at Mariucci that year. He sure tanked fast.

Back in black. Sometimes white or green for me to change things up. All the Badger fans around here love my green tape. :)

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

Totally missing my goals for this week gym-wise, as I've been insanely busy. But I don't really feel terrible about it. Hoping I can recoup some of the losses this weekend. I've only managed a 2 mile run and 4 miles on a bike all week. I'm going to go lift tonight, so I'm planning to run tomorrow and lift on Sunday, which will still get me shy of my goals, but less so.

Hockey-wise, I actually tried the different tape on Wednesday night (my stick really needed re-taping to begin with), and I think it actually worked. ;) Just a mental thing. Although that practice was for a MUCH less skilled team than the Tuesday practice, so I didn't feel as terrible anyway (the Tuesday practice had girls who played for Manhattanville and Elmira, and I really struggled with the puck that night in trying to keep up with them).

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

I have some sort of hamstring soreness that is pretty bad. Hopefully just soreness and not a pull or a tear but I have to take a few days off from running. :(

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

So, either the company I always buy jeans from (the Target Mossimo brand) changed their sizing, or I have lost an entire dress size in the last month or so. I bought a new pair of jeans on Wednesday, and I didn't even bother trying them on, only to put them on at Flashy's apartment later and realize I could have easily gone down one size. Something I'm doing must be working!

I am consciously trying to walk more. My big, clunky, not easy to navigate truck makes it hard to me to park sometimes, so it's easier for me to park on the far ends of lots.

Are you able to stretch without too much pain? Sometimes the leg muscles can get very tight without much warning, especially if you're trying something new or there's an underlying injury.

Regular lifters... if there are any around here... does time of day affect performance? I am just now having lunch... hit the gym at work at noon... didn't do as well as expected. This may just be the progression of the plan I'm on but I felt that I was under-performing by a few pounds.

Usually I hit the gym after work and I usually have a normal sized lunch... i'm also wondering if having those last few hours of recovery that I didn't get today would have an impact... for all i know I'm just chasing after trace bits.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

Had a training session tonight and determined my one-rep-max on the bench. Currently at 115 (body weight). Exactly where I wanted it to be. :) I don't do high weight on the bench much, since other than training sessions I have no one to spot me, and we've been doing a lot more plyometrics-type work than weights lately.

Also did two actual, unassisted pull ups. I've never done a pull up before in my life. Was pretty excited about that. My trainer did NOT expect me to be able to do it. He was talking about working up to a full pull up in a month or two. :D

The time of day doesn't really matter, but if you're tired, or not as focused as you'd normally be cause the work day isn't over could matter. Also, you want to eat something within the hour of when you're done lifting. You want to get protein to the muscles to help them build them back up after you shred them lifting. It doesn't have to be a full meal or anything; a peanut butter sandwich and milk would work.

yeah, i want to work on that... working where I do doesn't help because its all subway and its an hour before I can get anything into my system.... I'll have to bring stuff to work.

edit: what bothered me was that I was one rep away from hitting a new high last time... and this time 4 days later I felt even worse about it. For some reason I could hit 85 (shoulder press) and still felt like I had room but 87.5 doesn't want to go... freaking weird.

I'd say instead of trying to move up, keep lifting the 85 pounds. Eventually your muscles will signal to you when to move up. I've been curling with 30 pounds for about 3 months now, and my body just isn't ready to take the next step. Which is fine with me, because I'm not looking for huge muscle gains anyway.

And as for time of day, you'll figure out what works for you. Lifting, I do better mid-morning or evening. Swimming is either a late night or VERY early morning activity. Running I can do anytime after the sun rises or the sun sets, and cycling I prefer the morning.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

Well the hamstring held up while doing leg curls lifting today, but I'm gonna hold off on running another day and hopefully get a bit more recovery. I really hope i'm not sidelined from running.

time of day was influenced by the 20 inches of frozen awesome sitting outside

How did all the dieters do during the game?

pretty bad... i shouldn't have bought cheez-its this weekend first of all. actually aside from the cheezits it wasn't all that awful... that was a weak moment though.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

Had my dinner of slow cooked pork chops, ratatouille, and baked potato before the game, and I didn't eat anything else until I had some popcorn afterward.

Speaking of food, I looked at my food log today and realized my diet is way too low in fat. No wonder I'm so hungry most of the time...

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

Not so good. I'm not really "dieting" at the moment per se, just trying to stick to healthy, fresh food (I don't count calories or plan out meals - that's how I distinguish between the two), and I definitely did not do that at the party I was at. Going to need to be especially good this week.

Re: Diet and Exercise 2010: Whatever it takes

Tried a new (to me) type of elliptical yesterday--one with "ski poles."

Today, my quads are very tight.
