Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Tigers have to win today and hope like hell that Toronto and Baltimore lose, correct?

Yes. In a scenario that's would be too fun to have play out to actually happen, it's possible for a Game 164.

Three-Club Tie for Two Wild Card Spots:
After Clubs have been assigned their A, B and C designations, Club A would host Club B. The winner of the game would be declared one Wild Card winner. Club C would then host the loser of the game between Club A and Club B to determine the second Wild Card Club.

So, if Baltimore and Toronto lose today, and the Tigers win today and tomorrow, that creates the scenario above.

Toronto would have first pick of designation, we would have last and get stuck with Club B.

Game 162 would be tomorrow, Game 163 Tuesday, Game 164 Wednesday, then the actual Wild Card Thursday, and finally the ALDS would start Friday.

At least one

Correct. At this point, Toronto and the O's can both max out at 89 wins, as both have 88 right now. The best the Tigers can do is 88.

If both Toronto and Baltimore win today, the Tiger season ends today.

Oh, and all games start today at ~ 3 PM, plus or minus 10 minutes or so. A virtual shotgun start across MLB for the last day of the season.

Baltimore up 5-1, Toronto leads Boston 1-0. Meanwhile, the Tigers are playing a rousing game of beat-dick, what with their 1 hit and all.

Come on, guys. It's not like this game is important or anything.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Verlander has gotten jack and **** in run support this season.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

We could've kept Verlander in the game, had him bunt, and would've been in better position than we are now by having Victor K.

And now he's out of the game, pinch-hit for by Victor...who promptly strikes out on 3 pitches. Runner on 2nd, 0 out, and Verlander can't bunt?

We've burned our ace and we've got nothing to show for it. This is what should get Ausmus fired.

Nope. 105 pitches is waaaay too much for our ace. His titties will fly in the air and catch fire if he goes over 110. Can't have our former Cy Young winner going past 7 innings.

It's going to be up to Miggy in the 9th. I don't know if he's got another one left in him.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Orioles win 5-2 over the Yankees.

We're this close to being dead.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Don't worry. It's all going to be over in a few minutes.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Miggy singles.

And they're pinch running for him?

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

A fastball right down the ****ing pike ends it?

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Okay, a few things statistically:

Miggy ends up 4th in the batting race, 5th in OBP, 3rd in OPS, 2nd in SLG, 8th in HR, 6th in RBI in the American League.

Verlander came in 2nd in IP, 2nd in ERA, 1st in WHIP, and 1st in SO by 21 Ks.

Verlander was Verlander this year. Miggy was Miggy. You can't blame this on those two.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Part II

As a team, the Tigers were 11th in ERA, 7th in WHIP, 11th in SO in the American League.

As a team, the Tigers were 6th in HR, 6th in runs scored, 2nd in OBP, 3rd in SLG, and 2nd in OPS.
