Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Even though they tried to address the BP last winter it didn't work out that it was any better at all. Rondon was very inconsistent, Greene was as well, and they were the best guys out there. the closer wasn't very good if you ask me and he will be here next year. I thought JD really faded at the end of the year. And we really only had 2 descent starters. Zimmerman was a complete bust.
I like our rotation for next year, but the BP has to be better and we need another left handed bat.
All year when a new guy pitched against us, we made him look like the second coming of Walter Johnson.

Fire Ausmus.

.....and the Tigers picked up his option.

Edit: I guess they could have asked him "Would you start Britton in the 11th?" and when he said yes, told him he could stay

Finally. Some intelligence from a competent writer at the Detroit News:

Yes. I'd sign Maybin and keep him. I'd let K rod go. I might trade JV, for the right deal.
I like JD, but again for the right deal he goes, same for kinsler. I like both of them but it's reality.
Things will be better next year after upton and victor come off the books.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

Victor is signed thru 2018. Upton can opt out after 2017, player option only.

I think JD is gone this winter. If we trade Kinsler, we've got nothing behind him in this organization. Don't bring me Machado. And I've got the feeling that the skids are being greased for one of the two big guns to be dealt, too.

I think there's a complete rebuild coming between now and Opening Day 2018. By then we're going to have to rebuild the entire outfield, 2B (Kinsler will be 36 by then), and Miggy will be 35 shortly after Opening Day.

Detroit Free Press sportswriter/local bitter old man Drew Sharp died the morning. I'll be honest. I couldn't stand the guy.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

looks like they will move JD if they can and not sign k rod again. should be an interesting off season.

Re: Detroit Tigers, Volume 9: The Carlos Guillen edition

I figured that was coming. JD is a free agent after 2017, and Chris Ilitch doesn't want to spend more money than he has to. I'm still convinced that this team is going to be dismantled and prepped for sale once the old man goes.

As for K-Rod, I've heard that it's a healthy market for closers.

Hopefully the Dad has structured things to avoid a healthy estate tax bite.

For Victor Alcantara, a 23 year old right-handed starting pitcher that spent 2016 in AA.

Also, the option on K-Rod was picked up.

Verlander finishes 2nd in the Cy to Porcello after the two clowns voting in Tampa left him off the ballot. In other news, the Tampa baseball franchise should be relocated to Japan. Kate Upton threw some fire on Twitter
